North Melbourne<\/a> coach Alastair Clarkson<\/a> has conceded it may be "disrespectful" if he were to coach again this year, despite being welcomed back to Arden Street on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

In a 9News exclusive, Clarkson said he's keen to "repay the faith" shown in him by the struggling Roos, since he took a mental health break in mid-May.<\/a><\/p>\n

"Repay the faith\ufeff, get back on this journey with the Kangas, getting off the canvas and back being relevant again," Clarkson told 9News<\/em> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

However, there is no urgency to jump back into his full time role, with the coach\ufeff admitting that he may not even return in 2023.<\/p>\n

"It might be that I don't coach again this year," Clarkson said.<\/p>\n

"It would be a little bit disrespectful … if I just walk back into the club.<\/p>\n

"Its probably more likely that it will be later rather than sooner."<\/p>\n

Clarkson led his first session with his playing group on Tuesday since Brett Ratten took over as interim coach.<\/p>\n

"Just try to slowly\ufeff integrate back in. Today's my first real contact day with the players," he said.<\/p>\n

The coach, who led North Melbourne to their only two wins so far in 2023, admitted he has been out of touch with the struggling playing group, but is willing to rebuild those relationships.<\/p>\n

"I've had very little to do with them for the last eight or ten weeks," Clarkson said.<\/p>\n

"That's just going to take a bit of time. Once that occurs, it will work out."<\/p>\n

It comes after AFL journalist Caroline Wilson reported that there was still "real concern" over Clarkson's wellbeing<\/a> on Nine's Footy Classified<\/em> on Monday night.<\/p>\n

The club is unprepared to confirm when he will return to full-time duties, but those inside insist "he will be back when everyone is absolutely certain he's ready," Wilson said.<\/p>\n

There was hope that he may return to the coaches box for the Roos' round 19 clash against St Kilda on Sunday, but Clarkson was quick to shut down the possibility.<\/p>\n

"I need to find out what's been going on and what the lay of the land is," Clarkson said.<\/p>\n

Clarkson stepped away from North Melbourne indefinitely in May during the Hawthorn racism investigation, which he says he is ready to put behind him as he looks to be the leader the Roos require.<\/p>\n
