Supercars championship<\/a> contender Brodie Kostecki will make his NASCAR Cup Series<\/a> debut at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway later this month.<\/p>\n

Kostecki will compete for Richard Childress Racing and carry No.33 on the door of his Chevrolet Camaro with backing from Australian businessman Peter Adderton.<\/p>\n

It marks a return of sorts for the Perth product, who had a stint in the United States racing in lower-level NASCAR categories in his formative years.<\/p>\n

The race at the famed Brickyard will take place on the road course configuration on the same weekend as the IndyCar Series hosts its fourth-to-last round of the year.<\/p>\n

"I am thrilled to be making my NASCAR Cup debut at the Brickyard," said Kostecki.<\/p>\n

"It's an honour to compete at such an iconic venue and against some of the biggest names in motorsport.<\/p>\n

"I'm incredibly grateful to RCR for giving me this opportunity and I'm determined to make the most of it."<\/p>\n

The young gun has been long rumoured to make a return to the United States and only revived speculation in recent months<\/a> in the wake of Shane van Gisbergen's successful cameo on the streets of Chicago<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kostecki travelled to the United States earlier this year with some of his Supercars team members, including Erebus Motorsport stablemate Will Brown, to witness the NASCAR Cup Series in person.<\/p>\n

"Racing is at the core of everything I do and NASCAR has been a lifelong goal of mine after spending years growing up in the sports heartland in North Carolina," said Kostecki.<\/p>\n

"It's a whole different world over there and any additional time I can spend racing is only going to help me try and win my first Supercars Championship.<\/p>\n

"We got some great exposure to the inner sanctum of the team during our recent trip, and I cannot wait to immerse myself in the team, this time as a Cup Series driver."<\/p>\n

Kostecki's move to NASCAR isn't all that surprising given his ties to the series and previous registered interest.<\/p>\n

The lack of racing in Supercars this year has also driven Kostecki to get behind the wheel \u2013 an issue that has been a gripe of many drivers.<\/p>\n

This year's Supercars calendar features just 12 rounds, meaning some drivers have elected to do extracurricular racing in sports cars or stock cars.<\/p>\n

"We have always encouraged Brodie's pursuit of more racing opportunities," said Erebus Motorsport boss Barry Ryan.<\/p>\n

"Providing him with the chance to explore and excel in various racing disciplines not only enhances his skills but also contributes to the overall growth and success of our team."<\/p>\n

Kostecki's next Supercars appearance will come at the Sydney SuperNight on July 28-30.<\/p>\n

He'll then head across to Indianapolis for the 200-mile race on August 13.<\/p>\n
