Australian spin bowler Nathan Lyon<\/a> has revealed a lunch break altercation between players following the controversial stumping of Jonny Bairstow at Lord's<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bairstow was given out when Aussie wicketkeeper Alex Carey threw down his stumps during the second Ashes<\/a> Test, a wicket that proved pivotal in Australia winning the match and taking a 2-0 series lead.<\/p>\n

England players and fans reacted badly \ufeffto the wicket, claiming Carey's actions did not uphold the spirit of cricket, although no one successfully argued Bairstow wasn't out under the laws of the game.<\/p>\n

Shortly after Bairstow was dismissed, he was involved in a heated confrontation with Aussie players, according to Lyon.<\/p>\n

"Jonny had a few words here and there, but that's all part of it, I'm all for it," Lyon told the Willow Talk podcast.<\/p>\n

\"Bairstow<\/p>\n

"There were a few Australian guys and a few English guys in the lunchroom and I hobbled up on my crutches and stood in the middle of it and tried to calm things down a little bit."<\/p>\n

One lunch room at Lord's is shared by both teams, making for potentially awkward moments during a particularly heated match.<\/p>\n

To make matters worse, players must walk through a horde of MCC members at the famous London venue\ufeff.<\/p>\n

It proved a recipe for disaster this time around, with Australian players involved in ugly clashes with Lord's members<\/a>. Three patrons were subsequently suspended for allegedly abusing the tourists.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"The emotions in the room were quite remarkable," Lyon said.<\/p>\n

"Everyone was gobsmacked but found it hilarious because you walk through that Long Room and you're more chance of getting sued than punched. So, you look at it like that and all these guys abusing you, and you're like 'what's going on here?'.<\/p>\n

"It was quite funny in all respects."<\/p>\n

While England players and fans are still fuming over the Bairstow stumping, Australia has maintained it was a legitimate wicket and no one has offered any apology or regret.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Nine's Today<\/em>, Aussie batter Travis Head refused to be drawn on whether he would advocate \ufeffa similar wicket again.<\/p>\n

Head revealed he drew the ire of Bairstow after publicly claiming the England 'keeper would do the exact same thing as Carey<\/a>. Bairstow has previously attempted to throw down the stumps of opposition batters, but failed to get a wicket.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI'll leave that to Kez (Carey)," Head laughed.<\/p>\n

"I think he said the other day (that) he would (do it again).<\/p>\n

"We don't know if Jonny would do it the other way around. I said he potentially would, and he wasn't happy with me saying that the other week."<\/p>\n

The fourth Ashes match gets underway in Manchester on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
