The current deal expires at the end of the World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;As Matildas, we are part of a special group of players (and) we stand on the shoulders of giants who have paved the way to afford the opportunities we have now,&quot; the players said.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"697f15c3-aa97-4cce-aa2d-a1cc820f3b0b\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/eb92ff9b-df74-461d-a09c-91f9400a2db6\" alt=\"\" data-width=\"3502\" data-height=\"1970\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sam Kerr read the line: &quot;Those that came before us showed that being a Matilda means something. They showed us how to fight for recognition, validation, and respect.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;They showed us how to leave the shirt in a better place for those yet to come.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Seven hundred and thirty-six footballers have the honour of representing their country on the world&#x27;s biggest stage this tournament, yet many are still denied the basic right to organise and collectively bargain.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Collective bargaining has allowed us to ensure we now get the same conditions as the Socceroos, with one exception: FIFA will still only offer women a quarter as much prize money as men for the same achievement.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>FIFA announced the 2023 Women&#x27;s World Cup prize pool would be increased to $161 million, up from just $44 million at the 2019 World Cup in France. Each player will also be paid $44,000 from the governing body for group stage participation.<\/p>\n<p><img data-video-id=\"6330976979112\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/pickerimage-166.jpg\" alt=\"Matildas ready for elevated World Cup competition\" data-vms-id=\"ref:cljy43wjo00060jo515iau3gb\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Football Australia has committed to paying the Matildas stars the same percentage of prize money as the men.<\/p>\n<p>The men&#x27;s World Cup last year had a prize pool of nearly $644 million. FIFA has stated it intends to reach parity at the 2027 Women&#x27;s World Cup, but the PFA claims they have no formal policy or commitment to achieve it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 2007 Women&#x27;s World Cup in China was the first to offer prize money at all. FIFA began awarding prize money for the men at the 1982 World Cup in Spain.<\/p>\n<p>The Matildas are one of only a handful of participating nations whose players are covered by a CBA. Others include Denmark, Sweden and the US.<\/p>\n<p>Players from England, Canada and Nigeria are in active disputes with their federations that could disrupt their campaigns. Both Canada and Nigeria are in Group B with Australia.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After winning the 2010 Asian Cup, the then-Matildas players were forced to return to part-time jobs. Their first CBA came two years later in 2012 for basic pay.<\/p>\n<p>The next CBA in 2013 meant the Matildas no longer had to wash their own jerseys.<\/p>\n<p><img data-video-id=\"6331180764112\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/pickerimage-167.jpg\" alt=\"Matildas burn French with end-to-end goal\" data-vms-id=\"ref:clk2iea3d000e0ks7fpk2659t\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Players \u2013 including some still in the current squad \u2013 went on strike in 2015 amid negotiations for their next CBA, and eventually were successful.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Just like we do on the pitch, we stuck together, refused to back down and got the result.
