Port Adelaide<\/a> champion Kane Cornes<\/a> has expressed his concern with Western Bulldogs<\/a> coach Luke Beveridge's<\/a> "stubbornness", declaring the 2016 premiership-winning mentor has failed to "maximise" the "extraordinary talent" after their two-point loss to Sydney on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

"He's lost me a bit, Luke Beveridge, and it's been building to this point for a while," Cornes said on SEN.<\/p>\n

"Time and time again, my belief is that in recent years he has not maximised the extraordinary talent that he's got on the list.<\/p>\n

"I don't know, the stubbornness from Luke Beveridge, he's lost me."<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs, who have won nine games in 2023, sit just inside the top eight, with Cornes saying it simply isn't good enough.<\/p>\n

"I think (Beveridge) has been there too long, and once again, the coach's job is to maximise what you've got. He doesn't do that and hasn't been able to do that for seven years," Cornes said.<\/p>\n

"This group has been wasted, and it would be a real shame that they are an average football team with the list that they've got."<\/p>\n

Cornes was also hesitant about the Bulldogs' decision to lock Beveridge in as coach until 2025.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"The Western Bulldogs decided to extend their coach's contract before a game was played this year. There was no need, or reason, or logic to do it other than to alleviate some of the pressure," Cornes said.<\/p>\n

"It would have been much wiser, as I said at the time, to wait until the halfway point of the year."<\/p>\n

Cornes urged the Dogs to look elsewhere for a leader, searching for someone who could emulate St Kilda and Essendon's recent form surges.<\/p>\n

\"Luke<\/p>\n

"At the end of the year … I would be having serious conversations about moving on from Luke Beveridge as coach," he said.<\/p>\n

"Look at what Ross Lyon has done (at St Kilda) with an average list and look at what Brad Scott has done at the Bombers with just a list … what Matty Nicks has at Adelaide is nothing compared to the weapons the Western Bulldogs have.<\/p>\n

It comes after Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd expressed his concern over Bulldog Bailey Smith's "obsessive" work rate<\/a>, which prompted Beveridge to jump to the 22-year-old and club's defence, citing "disrespectful" comments.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Bulldogs went down by two points to Sydney at the SCG on Thursday night, with their finals chances becoming slimmer ahead of a crucial clash with Essendon.<\/p>\n
