Men\u2019s and women\u2019s teams will receive equal prize money at cricket\u2019s <\/a>biggest tournaments with immediate effect, the sport\u2019s governing body said.<\/p>\n

The decision was taken at the International Cricket Council annual conference, fulfilling well in advance the organisation\u2019s commitment to reaching prize money equity in the events it runs by 2030.<\/p>\n

The decision was announced at the ICC's annual conference in Durban.<\/p>\n

"This is a significant moment in the history of our sport and I am delighted that men's and women's cricketers competing at ICC global events will now be rewarded equally," ICC Chairman Greg Barclay said in a statement.<\/p>\n

"Since 2017 we have increased prize money at women's events every year with a clear focus on reaching equal prize money.<\/p>\n

"From here on in, winning the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup will carry the same prize money as winning the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup and the same for Twenty20 World Cups and Under-19s too.<\/p>\n

\u201cCricket is genuinely a sport for all,\u201d Barclay added, \u201cand this decision from the ICC board reinforces that and enables us to celebrate and value every single player\u2019s contribution to the game equally.\u201d<\/p>\n

Teams will receive equal prize money for the equivalent finishing position at comparable events, such as the 50-over and Twenty20 World Cups, as well as the same amount for winning a match at those tournaments.<\/p>\n

Australia won the women's Twenty20 World Cup earlier this year and took home $1 million in prize money while runners-up South Africa received $500,000.<\/p>\n

In contrast, the England men's team received $1.6 million after winning the T20 World Cup in November last year while losing finalists Pakistan got $800,000.<\/p>\n
