New South Wales<\/a> avoided a series whitewash defeating Queensland<\/a> 24-10, with Blues rookie Bradman Best<\/a> making a statement in what was an "unreal" State of Origin debut.<\/p>\n

Blues coach Brad Fittler's selection to bring Best into his game three side was heavily criticised, however the 21-year-old wasted no time in justifying his coach's call by scoring a double and setting up another on debut in the sky blue jersey.<\/p>\n

An early disallowed try did not slow Best down, as the Knights star scored his maiden try for the Blues in the 23rd minute of the game before adding a second in the 65th minute.<\/p>\n

Replacing the injured Tom Trbojevic<\/a> in the centres, the Newcastle star's partnership with Canterbury winger Josh Addo-Carr<\/a> on the left side proved to be too strong for Queensland's defence, with the pair combining for three of the Blues' four tries.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on his stellar performance on Thursday morning, Best described his Origin debut as "a dream come true".<\/p>\n

"After last night, sitting with the boys in the sheds it all sort of kicked in," Best said.<\/p>\n

"It's a dream come true \u2026 It means the world to me.<\/p>\n

"We had a big job to do and obviously we don't want to lose at home and lose three nil.<\/p>\n

"It was good to win but it is still disappointing that we didn't win the series."<\/p>\n

Speaking on their emotional embrace on the sidelines with their son, Best's parents Tobi and Roger told Nine how "proud" they were<\/a> to watch him achieve his dreams.<\/p>\n

\"Bradman<\/p>\n

"That was the best. I'm still crying, I'm going to well up again," Best's mother Tobi said.<\/p>\n

"To see him living out his dreams and just to do so well tonight on the big stage is a very, very proud moment. It's overwhelming.<\/p>\n

"I knew from a young age he was special and I knew that when he got his opportunity he would nail it because he has dreamt of this moment for a long time and he has worked really hard for it."<\/p>\n

Best father Roger, who is a Queenslander, said "it was a tough week" at home preparing to cheer against his beloved Maroons, but could not be more proud of his son for achieving his dream.<\/p>\n

"I couldn't lose. I like supporting the Maroons and having the young fella scoring a couple of tries, even better," he said.<\/p>\n

"When he did ring me and say he got his first opportunity I said, 'Mate, take it with two hands'."<\/p>\n

Despite facing criticism over Best's selection, Fittler revealed he did not doubt the young star's ability to take on the pressure of Origin football and was impressed to see him achieve a double.<\/p>\n

"He was so good," he said.<\/p>\n

"He's always had that, everyone's seen it for a long time and he's at a club that hasn't done well for a long time. It's now up to him to take it to that next level and do it every week.<\/p>\n

\"Best's\u00a0parents\u00a0in\u00a0tears\u00a0after\u00a0dream\u00a0debut\"<\/p>\n

"You see some of the tries he scores, it's just wonderful.<\/p>\n

"A lot of fans, once they absorbed the fact he was playing, they were excited, and then to go out and score a couple of tries it's great."<\/p>\n

In total, the Blues used 28 players throughout the series, with Best becoming the sixth centre in Fittler's side to take to the field for New South Wales this series.<\/p>\n

"At the end of the day, you need to go now with 30 players. 17 or 18 just doesn't cut it with the amount of injuries and the things that go on throughout the year," Fittler said.<\/p>\n

"If our players that didn't play in this game are happy to turn up and support, then all of a sudden you become a lot stronger outfit."<\/p>\n
