Tennis great \ufeffKim Clijsters believes Iga Swiatek's "extreme" forehand grip is a major factor in the world No.1's struggles on Wimbledon's grass courts.<\/p>\n

Swiatek replaced the retired Ash Barty as the pacesetter in the women's game and has four grand slam titles at the age of 22.<\/p>\n

But Wimbledon remains her Achilles heel after bowing out in the quarter-finals against \ufeffElina Svitolina on Wednesday (AEST).<\/a><\/p>\n

Reaching the quarters was the Pole's career best run at Wimbledon.<\/p>\n

Swiatek used a rain delay to animatedly chat with her sports psychologist, then headed towards an off court lounge to huddle with her coach.<\/p>\n

None of that helped her figure out what was wrong with her spin heavy forehand, which accounted for 57 total errors and just 22 winners.<\/p>\n

"The hard hitters were definitely going to be tough for her," Clijsters said on Stan Sport's Grand Slam Daily<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"She is a great defender\u2026 but sometimes she gets a little tentative and lets the players dictate the point. I think (where it went wrong) was mostly on the forehand side. She has a little bit of an extreme grip which on the grass courts can be tough to kind of get control of.<\/p>\n

"We've seen a couple of the girls, like Coco Gauff, have had a similar issue with that forehand."<\/p>\n

Swiatek, who won at Roland-Garros last month, doffed her cap to Svitolina.<\/p>\n

"She played with more freedom and more guts," Swiatek said.<\/p>\n

"Sometimes, she really just let go of her hand and she played really, really fast."<\/p>\n

Svitolina will meet Czech star Marketa Vondrousova in the semi-finals while Swiatek must dust herself off her US Open title defence in August.<\/p>\n

"She's been so dominant for a while and is taking control of that No.1 spot," Clijsters said.<\/p>\n

"But there were a few unforced errors\u2026 she was getting agitated a lot quicker. There are all little signs that she's not the same Iga that we've seen at the French Open or on clay. Where if she had a little bit more time behind her shots she (would be) capable of moving more freely."<\/p>\n
