Former All Black Carl Hayman has been "seriously injured" after a bike accident in Mangawhai Heads in New Zealand's north.<\/p>\n

Hayman fell off his bike and broke his collarbone, but is "recovering well," a family member told Stuff<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Hayman was taken to Whangarei Hospital in a "serious condition", St John said.<\/p>\n

A northern rescue helicopter pilot who flew Hayman across Northland, confirmed the patient was "confused after falling off his bike."<\/p>\n

Police were also called to the scene.<\/p>\n

Hayman, who played 45 Tests for the All Blacks between 2001-07 and just over 450 professional rugby games in his career, was diagnosed with early onset dementia in 2021.<\/a><\/p>\n

Hayman retired from professional rugby in 2015 and believes the thousands of head knocks he suffered during his rugby career contributed to his condition.<\/p>\n

Regarded as one of the best tighthead props New Zealand has ever produced, Hayman made his Test debut against Samoa in 2001.<\/p>\n

He dominated the All Blacks front row for the next six years.<\/p>\n

His last Test was against France at Cardiff as the All Blacks made a quarter-final exit from the Rugby World Cup.<\/p>\n

Best known for his scrummaging prowess, Hayman was also mobile and effective as a lineout lifter in the lineout.<\/p>\n

Hayman has recently published a memoir, Head On<\/em>, about rugby, dementia and the cost of his success.<\/p>\n
