Maroons<\/a> legend Wally Lewis says suspended young gun Reece Walsh<\/a> may have cost himself a Wally Lewis Medal with his referee spray after superb performances in the first two games.<\/p>\n

Walsh played a key role in the Maroons' wins, but will be forced to watch from the sidelines on Wednesday night after copping a suspension for abusing \ufeffa referee while playing for the Broncos.<\/p>\n

Lewis said it was a "cold hard fact" that Walsh may have cost himself the prestigious honour by being sidelined for the State of Origin finale.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffHe possibly could've," he told Wide World of Sports' QLDER<\/em> when asked if Walsh cost himself the medal.<\/p>\n

\"Reece<\/p>\n

"There's a number of players that are battling it out for that. There's been some wonderful performances and he would have to play another game of similar style and activity to be at the top of the selectors' discussion points.<\/p>\n

"Yes he has cost himself because he's not going to be there and that's just a cold hard fact.<\/p>\n

"The lessons guarantee that some of the things you did in your career you push to the side and never ever do again and it can be a huge benefit to Queensland Rugby League in the future.<\/p>\n

\"Walsh,<\/p>\n

"It was something that went through his mind and seemed like the right thing to do and happened in a split second. If he had his time over again I very much doubt that it would happen again.<\/p>\n

"Sometimes it's the lessons you learn in situations like this that become your best educators in the game."<\/p>\n

Lewis' view was echoed by fellow Maroons legend Darren Lockyer, who said the 21-year-old would be experiencing serious "regret" over his foul-mouthed spray.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"It's his first Origin series and there's a chance to create history with a clean sweep," he told QLDER<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"He'll watch the game and he'll have some regrets without a doubt and I hope he learns.<\/p>\n

\"Maroons\u2019<\/p>\n

"That's the part of his journey, learning from his mistakes.<\/p>\n

"I think in every series the medal comes down to the last game. There's so many guys in contention that the performance that happens in game three is the one who'll win the medal and obviously Reece won't be there."<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe Walsh-less Maroons will hope to be the first Origin team to achieve a clean sweep since the 2010 Queensland side which featured Lockyer when they tackle the Blues at Accor Stadium on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n
