Johnathan Thurston<\/a> has revealed he received a warning from the NRL after Origin I<\/a>, due to his antics on the sideline.<\/p>\n

Thurston – who famously didn't want Todd Payten<\/a> to coach the Cowboys due to the 2005 grand final – is one of the most competitive players to have pulled on the boots and it appears that has translated to his coaching.<\/p>\n

In his role as assistant coach of Queensland, the Maroons great sits on the sideline and relays messages back and forth to coach Billy Slater.<\/p>\n

Due to his passionate reactions, Thurston revealed he had caught the ire of officials when asked about his subdued performance at Suncorp Stadium for Origin II.<\/p>\n

"I\ufeff got a warning from the NRL, they sat me down and said I'm not allowed to wear my heart on my sleeve and I'm not allowed to do what I was doing," he said on Nine's The Billy Slater Podcast<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Thurston then joked \ufeffhe had a quick reply for the official.<\/p>\n

"I said this is Origin, I'll do what I want," he laughed.<\/p>\n

Thurston's antics in game one could be explained due to the frantic nature in which the match was played.<\/p>\n

Queensland didn't regain the lead until the 73rd minute after going try for try with New South Wales.<\/p>\n

Game two was a little easier on the sideline with the Maroons winning 32-6, and Thurston admitted he toned it down due to the NRL's instruction.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I was a little bit subdued … I ride the highs and the lows like all the fans," he said.<\/p>\n

"I love State of Origin, I love watching rugby league.<\/p>\n

"You know when we're winning and we're losing because of my emotions, you can certainly see those."<\/p>\n

Thurston will return to the sidelines \ufeffon Wednesday at Accor Stadium as the Maroons aim for a clean sweep.<\/p>\n
