Queensland Maroons<\/a> captain and Rugby League Players Association<\/a> president Daly Cherry-Evans \ufeffhas spoken out on the organisation's current CBA dispute with the NRL<\/a>, as the issue continues to fester.<\/p>\n

Cherry-Evans<\/a> addressed the media in Origin camp\ufeff, with media only permitted to speak to players from Monday to Wednesday each week \u2014 Monday to Tuesday this week due to Origin.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old said the intention from the RLPA is "clear" after the boycott was announced on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

"The message is loud and clear, we just want progress to take place, it's as simple as that," Cherry-Evans said.<\/p>\n

"What we've done is we've just put a stake in the ground really, we really want this thing done, we don't want to spend our time worried about a negotiation but this negotiation is important to the playing group so we want it done.<\/p>\n

"We want it done sooner rather than later and hopefully by doing this we can bring everyone into a room and get it done."<\/p>\n

Cherry-Evans is one of six current NRL and NRLW players who sit on the RLPA board – with Chelsea Lenarduzzi, Wade Graham, Hannah Southwell, Josh Hodgson and Christian Welch the others. The Manly captain took over the president's role from Cameron Smith when he retired. \ufeff<\/p>\n

When asked how long he predicts the dispute to take, Cherry-Evans wasn't certain, but put the onus on the NRL.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I don't have the answer to that question sorry, we've made really clear intentions as a playing group of what we want," he said.<\/p>\n

"I think the next move is up to the NRL to get us into a room and get it done."<\/p>\n

The Queensland halfback also confirmed he'll say a speech at the trophy presentation, despite rumours \ufeffsuggesting otherwise.<\/p>\n

"One of you journos started this and I don't know where it's come from … this is a very, very proud and privileged opportunity to lift up the shield and there'll be Queenslanders there in the stadium but more importantly there'll be Queenslanders sitting at home that'll stay up regardless of what the result is to see that moment," he said.<\/p>\n

"I'll take a lot of pride in giving them that moment and definitely some words."<\/p>\n

At 34, and with 22 Queensland appearances to his name, Cherry-Evans was also quizzed on whether this series would be his last.<\/p>\n

The skipper was non-committal with his response. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI don't know, they're the big questions I don't have the answer for right now," he said.<\/p>\n

"As I said, I'm so grateful to be in Origin camp, I'm really proud to play for Queensland and lead the side but those bigger questions I don't think you need to have time for until you get time off at the end of the year."<\/p>\n
