Andrey Rublev<\/a> has made the Wimbledon<\/a> quarter-finals by pulling off "the most lucky shot ever" to reach match point.<\/p>\n

At two sets apiece in the fifth set and up 5-4 against Alexander Bublik, the pair engaged in an extraordinary rally that ended with "one of the greatest shots we've seen in years."<\/p>\n

On serve, Rublev had Bublik running all over the court before the Kazakhstan ace fired a shot down the line that he thought was enough to win the point.<\/p>\n

Bublik screamed as the ball neared the baseline but Rublev dived and lobbed the ball back over the net leaving Bublik stunned.<\/p>\n

Bublik cut a forlorn figure like a stunned mullet, offering a wry smile as the crowd erupted.<\/p>\n

"He can't believe it, we can't either," said the commentator.<\/p>\n

"The crowd erupt. Rublev was down. He's up. Bublev is wondering how it's possible. He was convinced he'd hit a clean winner."<\/p>\n

His offsider remarked, "That is one of the greatest shots we've seen here in years to get to match point."<\/p>\n

That got Rublev to match point and he duly converted with an ace.<\/p>\n

It marked a massive turnaround for the Russian, who conceded two sets in a row to go to a fifth having dominated the start of the match.<\/p>\n

All told, the 25-year-old prevailed 7-5, 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-7(5), 6-4 to advance.<\/p>\n

"Probably, it was one of the most lucky shots ever," said Rublev.<\/p>\n

"I don't know. Yeah, it was just luck. I don't think that I can do it one more time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I was just thinking that 'okay, it doesn't matter'. I was third set, I was fourth set, each set of them I had break points or I had some chances to win a set or he played good or maybe I was a bit tight and I didn't play well.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"So I say, for sure, if I keep playing I will have at least one chance, I should have, and then I had this chance I returned so good and I played really good rally and I was able to break him."<\/p>\n

Rublev will face the winner of Monday's other contest featuring Serbia's Novak Djokovic and Poland's Hubert Hurkacz.<\/p>\n
