The absence of Nick Kyrgios<\/a> is being felt at Wimbledon<\/a> this year, according to friend and former foe Liam Broady.<\/p>\n

Kyrgios and Broady have known each other for about a decade, having been rivals in the junior ranks.<\/p>\n

This year, the Australian opted to miss Wimbledon due to a wrist injury having only just recovered from knee surgery.<\/p>\n

Broady, who upset Casper Ruud in the second round of SW19 this year<\/a>, noted the polar opposites between his win at home and his loss to Kyrgios at the Australian Open last year.<\/p>\n

The Brit met a raucous crowd in the first round in 2020, going down 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.<\/p>\n

"It was mega," Broady said of his second round Wimbledon win.<\/p>\n

"It was the complete reverse of playing Kyrgios at the Aus Open last year. I mean, that was probably the worst experience of my life \u2013 the Aussies sledging me like you wouldn't believe it. It was terrible.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Today I had all the Brits out there pulling for me and I'm sure Casper (Ruud) felt that pressure himself as well. I don't think people from other sports sometimes realise how big of a difference the crowd makes for tennis."<\/p>\n

Without Kyrgios, there is no villain as such at this year's tournament.<\/p>\n

The Canberra native is well-known for his on-court antics and showboating, which is largely unmatched.<\/p>\n

That's something missing at Wimbledon this year.<\/p>\n

"I've known Nick since juniors, so we've been good friends probably for 10 years now," said Broady.<\/p>\n

"He brings chaos with him everywhere he goes, but he brings a lot of entertainment as well. He's a fantastic player.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I think it's a shame he's not here this year. That would have been amazing for the tournament, but I'm sure he's enjoying himself right now a lot more than I am.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"He'll get a few down him tonight and I'll just be in bed drinking a few waters."<\/p>\n

Kyrgios is expected to return at the US Open later this year.<\/p>\n
