In Indonesia to mark Shaun Marsh's 40th birthday, the former Australian batsman got the perfect gift as younger brother Mitch completed an Ashes fairytale.<\/a><\/p>\n

And riding the \ufeffwave next to him was their father Geoff Marsh, erupting in raw emotion as Mitch Marsh took a single to bring up his first century outside of Australia.<\/p>\n

The Marsh brothers have been among the most maligned players in recent Australian cricket history.<\/p>\n

There have been accusations of nepotism given \ufeffGeoff Marsh's position as a former player, coach and selector – and the results at Test level never quite matched their talent.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"Most of Australia hate me," Mitch Marsh said four years ago.<\/p>\n

"There's no doubt I've had a lot of opportunity at Test level and I haven't quite nailed it.<\/p>\n

"But hopefully they can respect me for the fact I keep coming back\u2026 I'll keep trying and hopefully I'll win them over one day."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Mitch Marsh's scintillating run-a-ball 118 rescued Australia from 4-85.<\/p>\n

To put it in perspective, the allrounder and Travis Head combined for 155 runs.<\/p>\n

The rest of the team scored 108.<\/p>\n

Marsh then capped his remarkable day in his first Test in four years by claiming England's third wicket when Zac Crawley nicked off.<\/p>\n

He appeared to be making up for lost time.<\/p>\n

Marsh was picked after Cameron Green was sidelined by a minor hamstring strain<\/a> following the win at Lord's last weekend.<\/p>\n

He has excelled in T20s and ODIs since he was dropped from the Test side in 2019.<\/p>\n

Marsh had only played four first class matches in those four years, but in the last one in March in Perth he scored an unbeaten 108.<\/p>\n

He walked in with England in rampant mood after sending in Australia on a green top with a fast outfield.<\/p>\n

Marsh got a slice of luck when Joe Root spilled him on 12 and he didn't give another chance in a brilliant counterattack.<\/p>\n

He hit 17 boundaries and four sixes, adding up to 92 runs of his innings.<\/p>\n

Marsh drove Stuart Broad through the covers, drove Chris Woakes straight on, smashed Ollie Robinson behind point, and pulled a shoulder high Mark Wood bouncer over deep square for six.<\/p>\n

His fifty came off 59 balls. The 100 stand with Travis Head came from 118 balls.<\/p>\n

They silenced Headingley.<\/p>\n

Marsh reached 99 with a six over long on off Moeen Ali and, next ball, achieved his third Tst century \u2014 all against England.<\/p>\n

\"Phenomenal<\/p>\n

He was ecstatic. He took 102 balls.<\/p>\n

"In the past my nerves have really got the better of me and I've worked really hard to control them," Marsh said.<\/p>\n

"I think it's the first time I've been dropped at Test cricket and you always need some luck. Today was my day. I've worked really hard where I can mentally take on the game like that. Everyone talks about playing their natural game and that's what it was for me."<\/p>\n
