Heartbroken and concerned A\ufeffFL coaches have thrown their support behind at least 45 past and present players who were caught up in the illegal distribution of images without their consent.<\/a><\/p>\n

On Wednesday night, the AFL confirmed an investigation was underway into the leak, but said in a statement that "many of the images are yet to be verified for identification".<\/p>\n

Coaches across the league spoke out about the "nasty" images that involve some of their own players, expressing concern for the wellbeing of those involved.<\/p>\n

"I've been briefed about it, and to my understanding there's not Hawthorn stuff in there, but it's a really difficult thing to talk about," Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell said.<\/p>\n

"Our head of footy Rob McCartney spoke to the players first thing this morning and just gave them an update about what information was out there.<\/p>\n

"I was pleased that none of our current players are involved in it, but it's certainly a challenging period."<\/p>\n

St Kilda \ufeffcoach Ross Lyon was harsher in his response to the illegal distribution, saying it's his responsibility to protect his playing group.<\/p>\n

"It's nasty, isn't it? It's a shot over the bow for everyone that they are always at risk," Lyon said.<\/p>\n

North Melbourne interim coach Brett Ratten also had his say, with his focus solely on supporting his players' welfare.<\/p>\n

"We just need to look after the privacy of the people, that's important," Ratten said.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's unbelievable how these photos get out for a start. I haven't really got much of a take on it, I think we just look after the individuals."<\/p>\n

AFL Players Association chief executive Paul Marsh reminded the public that some images may not be legitimate and that they should not share any they come across.<\/p>\n

"While it is important to note that some of the images may not be legitimate, this is an appalling and disgusting act and a likely unlawful breach of privacy that is unacceptable," Marsh said in a statement by the AFLPA.<\/p>\n

"We ask the public to treat this matter seriously by not seeking out or sharing any of these photos and respecting the rights and privacy of those impacted.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

The AFL has confirmed they are offering welfare support for those impacted.<\/p>\n
