With the Maroons<\/a> preparing for a potential clean sweep, Queensland coach Billy Slater<\/a> has
\n hinted that he may not return as head coach in 2024.\n<\/p>\n

Slater revealed that he will make a decision on his future as head coach for the Maroons
\n after the State of Origin<\/a> series ends, saying there is no time frame for his decision.\n<\/p>\n

The Queensland great has successfully led the Maroons to two State of Origin series wins since
\n his coaching debut last year, with the Maroons securing the 2023 series title in their 32-6 win
\n over the Blues in Game II.<\/p>\n

\n"We'll worry about this year first then all that will take care of itself," said Slater.<\/p>\n

\"Coach<\/p>\n

\n"I'm just going to focus on what I've got at hand and the job that I have got at hand and that's
\n preparing for the next six days for an Origin game.<\/p>\n

\n"I'm really enjoying this. I really am, this is great but you know, it takes up a fair bit of time.<\/p>\n

\n"I've got a lot on so I'll sit down with Ben Ikin, the right people and my family. It takes up a
\n fair bit of time, even before the Origin series."\n<\/p>\n

Slater then confirmed that his statements did not imply his answer was a no.<\/p>\n

\"Billy\u00a0fires\u00a0back\u00a0at\u00a0critics\u00a0over\u00a0selection\"<\/p>\n

\n"I didn't see myself standing here being the Queensland coach a few years ago either so you
\n never know what's around the corner," Slater said.<\/p>\n

\n"Right now I'm happy with what I'm doing and where I am in my life."\n<\/p>\n

Slater has been urged by Maroons stars Cameron Munster and Reuben Cotter to stay at the
\n helm for Queensland, and believes the "side has a bright future ahead of them" with or without his guidance.\n<\/p>\n

"I didn't know he was off contract, they'd obviously be offering him the house at the
\n moment," Munster said.\n<\/p>\n

\n"He has been massive and has instilled so much belief in this team. He gives us all simple
\n jobs and simple roles and everyone goes out and just does it. That is our standard.<\/p>\n

\"Billy<\/p>\n

\n"When you have someone like that who wants to do their best for the team it just makes you
\n want to be great for him. It just filters down from the top to the bottom and that is why this
\n team has been so good."\n<\/p>\n

\nCotter labelled Slater as one "of the greatest coaches" he has ever played under, saying
\n Slater's commitment and impact on the team has been "enormous."\n<\/p>\n

\n"He is really big on re-earning our jersey every game \u2026 That competitive style of footy, the
\n effort on effort stuff, he is big on those one-percenters and winning the small moments,"
\n he said.\n<\/p>\n

\nQueensland will take on New South Wales for the final time next week, as Origin III
\n kicks off Wednesday, July 12.<\/p>\n
