If he got a yellow card in the game, he would have been sent off. For<br \/>\n me, it&#x27;s not worth the risk of putting the team at risk, putting the tournament at risk, putting<br \/>\n everything at risk.\n<\/p>\n<p>&quot;There will be multiple opportunities where we get to use our voice like we did in that game.<br \/>\n There&#x27;ll be multiple opportunities where I get to use my voice for things. We would have liked<br \/>\n to have worn it, but I&#x27;m not going to put this team at risk. We have to abide by the rules<br \/>\n we&#x27;ve been given.&quot;<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"1cb182ce-60b2-4612-96e8-62123adeafcc\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/1cb182ce-60b2-4612-96e8-62123adeafcc-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Matildas captain Sam Kerr pictured during the friendly international against England at Gtech Community Stadium on April 11, 2023 in Brentford, England.\" data-width=\"3690\" data-height=\"2075\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Football Australia released a statement welcoming FIFA&#x27;s decision to acknowledge and<br \/>\n represent the Indigenous community on an armband for the World Cup, with the governing<br \/>\n body awarding a rest day to all teams in respect of World Indigenous People&#x27;s Day on<br \/>\n August 9.\n<\/p>\n<p>However, Football Australia&#x27;s statement noted the exclusion of an approved armband that<br \/>\n represented the LGBTQ+ community, with former Matildas striker and Professional<br \/>\n Footballers Australia co-chief executive Kathryn Gill accusing FIFA of hypocrisy.\n<\/p>\n<p>Gill, who played 86 games in the green and gold jersey, claims the sport&#x27;s governing body is<br \/>\n restricting the ability of players to express their beliefs and opinions on a global stage,<br \/>\n despite the Matildas remaining at the forefront of the pursuit of gender equality within the sport.<\/p>\n<p><img data-video-id=\"6330062584112\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/raw-capture-sequence.00_03_05_05.still302.jpg\" alt=\"Matildas to &#x27;embrace the moment&#x27;\" data-vms-id=\"ref:cljarobvj00140joa2c3t4an5\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&quot;The Matildas players have been at the forefront of the pursuit of gender equality, LGBTI+<br \/>\n inclusion and ensuring that sport is a genuine force for good,&quot; said Gill.\n<\/p>\n<p>&quot;In authentically raising their voices they have been powerful allies for many. FIFA are now<br \/>\n attempting to define for these same players, and their peers around the world, the limits of<br \/>\n their freedom of expression regarding human rights, whilst at the same time stating that<br \/>\n football unites the world and can shine a spotlight on important causes.\n<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Any player that uses their platform to express their support for human rights will continue to<br \/>\n have the full support of the PFA.\n<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Good allyship requires courage to stand up for those who are having their rights<br \/>\n undermined.
