Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes<\/a> has questioned whether sacking head coach Stuart Dew<\/a> would be the right move for the Gold Coast Suns<\/a>, which is on the cards according to senior AFL<\/a> journalist Caroline Wilson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the wake of Sunday's 78-point belting at the hands of Collingwood on the Gold Coast, Wilson reported on Nine's Footy Classified\ufeff<\/em> on Monday night that Dew's days were "numbered".<\/p>\n

"In fact, he could be gone as early as \ufeffby the end of this month," Wilson said of Dew, who took on Gold Coast's head coaching job at the end of 2017.<\/p>\n

Wilson added that even if three-time premiership-winning head coach Damien Hardwick<\/a> was not prepared to take up the Suns gig, Gold Coast would still give Dew the boot.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It hasn't been all his doing," Cornes said in defence of Dew on Footy Classified<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"The list-management errors that they have made, the overpaying of players to the point where they've had to trade out draft picks and players, as well as decisions dating back to Lachie Weller\ufeff and giving up pick two and (Andrew) Brayshaw for him."<\/p>\n

Hardwick quit Richmond\ufeff in May<\/a>, admitting he no longer had the energy required to coach the Tigers.<\/p>\n

Just over a month later, many are wondering if he could be available to become the fourth head coach in Gold Coast history, following the services of Guy McKenna, Rodney Eade and Dew.<\/p>\n

"So now you're going to sack another coach with a year to go, and go for Damien Hardwick?" Cornes added.<\/p>\n

"Of course you have to\ufeff pick up the phone and ring Damien Hardwick, but are you convinced that he is the right guy for this job? You want to make sure he's refreshed, because he was burnt out four weeks ago … I think you want to be all in, you want a coach who wants to get their hands dirty, doesn't want holidays in January, this is a young group, need to be hands-on."<\/p>\n

Wilson explained her reading of the grim Suns situation.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"People around football and management are now casting big doubts on the standards within the footy club and the players," Wilson said.<\/p>\n

"I'm talking more about preparation for big games, (including) match-day preparation and strategy from the coaching panel when it comes to\ufeff coping with those big games."<\/p>\n

The Suns have never played finals footy since joining the AFL in 2011.<\/p>\n

The embattled club is placed 12th on the ladder ahead of round 17\ufeff, in which it will meet the high-flying Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.<\/p>\n
