NSW Blues<\/a> coach Brad Fittler<\/a> \ufeffhas taken aim at critics of his non-selection of Nicho Hynes<\/a>, accusing "media people" of trying to "drive a wedge" between him and the Sharks star.<\/p>\n

Hynes was axed from the side after a short cameo in Origin I, with plenty calling for him to be reconsidered.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, Fittler went with Cody Walker at five-eighth for Origin III, replacing Jarome Luai, while Reece Robson and Clint Gutherson will fill utility spots on the bench. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Fittler revealed he had been in conversation with Hynes since Origin I, and said there was an understanding between the two around his position in the side. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"I spoke to Nicho after Cronulla's (win over Dragons), he was fantastic \ufefflast week," he said on Nine's 100% Footy<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"The situation with Nicho at the moment is he's playing halfback for the Sharks and he pretty much predominantly plays on the right-hand side, so Mitchell Moses is the halfback and plays on the right-hand side and you've got someone like Cody Walker who is a five-eighth and plays on the other side, so it's a much better fit.<\/p>\n

"Because Nicho's doing such a great job on and off the field at the moment, it seems like a real easy target for a lot of media people to come into scrutiny and want to put pressure on that selection, and it feels like they want to drive a wedge between Nicho and myself.<\/p>\n

"Nicho and myself are totally understanding of the situation at the moment, I respect what he's doing for the Sharks and he's doing an incredible job, so if he keeps going he's going to force his way into the team somewhere."<\/p>\n

Fittler also discussed the dropping of Luai, who had been a mainstay \ufeffin the side since his debut in 2021.<\/p>\n

The coach explained the form of Walker was simply irresistible. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"That was tough, Jarome's \ufeffbeen a big part of our team the last couple of years," he said.<\/p>\n

"From the start of the series I was tossing up between Jarome and Cody. Cody is just in career-best form at the moment and he had a quad injury going into the second Origin.<\/p>\n

"The thing is with Jarome, I've loved him being part of the team, he brings great energy, he never lets you down on the field, but I just think it's Cody Walker's time. It's on his home ground in front of 70 or 80,000 people, and like I said, I picked a team to win."<\/p>\n
