Talented youngster Toby Sexton is set to sign with the Canterbury Bulldogs<\/a> after his current club, the Gold Coast Titans<\/a>gave him permission to explore his options.<\/p>\n

Bulldogs supremo Phil Gould<\/a> revealed negotiations are close to being finalised, in a de\ufeffal that could see him move to the club immediately.<\/p>\n

Sexton is behind Tanah Boyd for the halfback role at the Titans, while the club is reportedly looking at signing Ben Hunt if he's granted a release from his Dragons contract.<\/p>\n

Gould spoke highly of the young half \ufeffwhen opening up on the contract talks.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI would hope that negotiations are finalised in the next 24 hours," he said on Nine's 100% Footy<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"Toby was actually in the Bulldogs system years ago, he was on a scholarship when he was at Palm Beach Currumbin, (but) ended up going to the Titans and playing there.<\/p>\n

"He made first grade, played 19-20 games there last year, was playing first grade this year when he broke his wrist, we saw him play against the Dragons and score the winning try that day.<\/p>\n

"He has a very good kicking game, astute young kicker, he's a good young halfback and genuine halfback and he's a game manager.<\/p>\n

The signing of Sexton likely brings to an end Gould's search for a halfback, who has spoken openly about his struggles to find an appropriate player on the market.<\/p>\n

Kyle Flanagan started the year in the position for the Bulldogs but is now playing at hooker in NSW Cup.<\/p>\n

Matt Burton is Canterbury's incumbent halfback but is better suited to five-eighth.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs made a play at Hunt when he was off contract last year, before the Queensland star re-signed with the Dragons. \ufeffIt was believed they were looking at Luke Brooks, too, before he signed with Manly.<\/p>\n

Sexton is one of the first players to leave the Titans after Justin Holbrook's sacking, with revelations that David Fifita and Tino Fa'asuamaleaui are now both available due to a coach clause.<\/p>\n
