Wimbledon<\/a> is over for Coco Gauff<\/a> after the seventh seed was bundled out by compatriot Sofia Kenin<\/a> in the first round.<\/p>\n

Kenin, who has been as high as fourth in the world rankings but came in 128th in the standings, claimed a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win at SW19.<\/p>\n

The 2020 Australian Open<\/a> winner had to go through qualifying rounds to reach Wimbledon's main draw.<\/p>\n

"I'm just super \u2013 oh my god, I can't even like talk \u2013 I'm super happy," said Kenin.<\/p>\n

"Obviously a tough match. I knew I needed to play my best in order to win, and thank you guys so much."<\/p>\n

Asked about the key moments, Kenin replied, "Just play point by point. Don't get over anxious, super excited, so I just tried to stick to my plan and I'm super happy I finished before it got dark because I didn't feel like finishing tomorrow, to be honest."<\/p>\n

The win marks the end of a string of first round exits at major tournaments for Kenin, who came to Wimbledon off the back of three in a row.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"This means a lot," she said.<\/p>\n

"I had to go through qualis and I battled out there. I just took this match as any other match. I'm just super proud of myself."<\/p>\n

The highlight of the match was when Gauff won a gritty point in which she fell to the ground, recovered, before firing a forehand to go up 3-0 in the second set.<\/p>\n

She closed out the second set, but ultimately fell in the third when Kenin got out to a 5-2 lead and sealed the deal after a little over two hours.<\/p>\n

Kenin wound up with 18 winners to 22 unforced errors while Gauff finished with 33 winners and 33 unforced errors, scoring 12 aces.<\/p>\n

For Gauff, it's the first time she has suffered a first round loss at Wimbledon.<\/p>\n

She made it to the fourth round on her debut in 2019 and did it again upon returning in 2021, but lost in the third round of 2022.<\/p>\n

It's the first time since the 2022 Australian Open that Gauff has suffered a first round defeat.<\/p>\n

Kenin will face Wang Xinyu in the second round on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
