In a weekend of floggings, Newcastle<\/a> has scored its biggest win in club history, as the Bulldogs<\/a> season went from bad to worse.<\/p>\n

In light of \ufeffthe Sharks scoring a 52-16 win against the Dragons, followed by a 74-0 thrashing by the Cowboys against the Tigers, the Knights almost eclipsed the latter with a 66-0 victory against the Bulldogs.<\/p>\n

The huge margin makes it the first time since 2004 that three sides have scored over 50 points in a round. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Knights star Kalyn Ponga<\/a> also equalled Andrew Johns' club record for conversions, hitting 11 from 11.<\/p>\n

Newcastle coach Adam O'Brien<\/a> was understandably delighted post-game, with defence the most pleasing aspect. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"Keeping them to zero (was what I was happy with), I felt like that sort of performance defensively has been coming for a while," he said.<\/p>\n

O'Brien added \ufeffit was an important win after a 20-12 loss to the Panthers last week, along with round 18 being Beanies for Brain Cancer round, in honour of club legend Mark Hughes.<\/p>\n

"I was proud of all of them, it was an emotional week for the team, for the club, for myself so I'm just really proud, it's good to get a smile on everyone's faces," he said.<\/p>\n

After a stalemate in the first 10 minutes, the Knights \ufeffwent berserk with Jackson Hastings and Bradman Best both scoring in quick succession.<\/p>\n

Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Phoenix Crossland and Best all added more tries to the total before half time as the Knights led 30-0.<\/p>\n

Newcastle continued the party in the second half, as Kurt Mann quickly scored his first of the afternoon.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs' defence continued to open up with ease from there, with Greg Marzhew, Hastings, Best, Enari Tuala and Crossland all scoring.<\/p>\n

A hat-trick for Best was the first of his career.<\/p>\n

Along with the record-smashing, the Bulldogs will have a case with the match review committee after Matt Burton<\/a> was put on report with two minutes remaining for a hip drop. <\/p>\n

Burton is expected to be picked at centre for the NSW Blues in Origin<\/a> III.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo<\/a> described the match as "pretty disappointing" but refused say the club had hit rock bottom.<\/p>\n

According to Ciraldo, the massive loss comes from a culture that's been ingrained in the club for a while.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's not changes that are going to fix this, this is a cultural thing that's happened for years and years now, a habit of losing," he said post-match.<\/p>\n

"Obviously today's worse than most weeks but we want to change the culture of the club."<\/p>\n

Next week \ufeffthe Bulldogs will play the Rabbitohs on Saturday while the Knights have a bye.<\/p>\n
