Australian tennis legend Todd Woodbridge<\/a> has tagged Alex de Minaur<\/a> as the country's fighting chance at Wimbledon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With last year's runner-up Nick Kyrgios<\/a> \ufeffheading into the slam with limited match play in his return from knee surgery, Woodbridge outlined de Minaur's run as Australia's "main hope".<\/p>\n

De Minaur put on a strong showing at last week's Queen's Club Championships, defeating world No.6 Holger Rune in the semi finals.<\/p>\n

In winning 6-3, 7-6 (2), de Minaur saved three break points and broke Rune's serve twice.<\/p>\n

"For a modern player, he is a fairly natural grass courter," Woodbridge told Nine's Wide World of Sports<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"He had a great week at the Queen's Cup Championships. He lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the final\ufeff<\/a> [on Sunday].<\/p>\n

"He's always brought good results on this surface\ufeff and I think confidence-wise, that has done him the world of good.<\/p>\n

"He's almost up to his career-best ranking of 15."<\/p>\n

In his four appearances at the All England Club since 2018, de Minaur has only gone as far as the fourth round – a feat he achieved in 2022.<\/p>\n

With Wimbledon dropping its men's singles draw<\/a> on Friday,\ufeff the stage is set for a potential rematch between de Minuar and Alcaraz in the fourth round.<\/p>\n

"If he can get the right draw, \ufeffa semi final looms for him because he's that type of contender on grass," Woodbridge said.<\/p>\n

"He was one point away from the quarters last year, \ufeffand I think that he is our main hope moving into this championship."<\/p>\n

When is Wimbledon?<\/h3>\n

Main draw action at the All England Club kicks off on Monday July 3, with Nine's coverage of the opening round starting at 7.30pm AEST.<\/p>\n

Play starts on the outside courts at 8pm AEST and on the No.1 court at 10pm. Centre court play starts at 10.30pm apart from finals weekend when play starts at 11pm.<\/p>\n

The tournament is scheduled for 14 days, concluding with the women's singles final on Saturday July 15 and men's singles final on Sunday July 16.<\/p>\n

You can tune into Channel 9 and 90, 9Gem (channel 92) and 9Go (channel 93) to see the main matches being broadcast on free-to-air television.<\/p>\n
