After snatching victory from the jaws of defeat last week, Australia<\/a> has put itself in a strong position to retain the urn yet again after a strong outing on day one of the second Test at Lord's.<\/p>\n

Australia was put in to bat after England<\/a> captain Ben Stokes won the toss and barely put a foot wrong, finishing day one of the second Test on 5-339<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Steve Smith<\/a> led the way for the tourists with an unbeaten 85, while Travis Head (77) and David Warner<\/a> (66) also chipped in with handy contributions.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Bairstow handles pitch-invader in style<\/h3>\n

\ufeffThe second Test of the Ashes<\/a> started in truly bizarre circumstances after ground invaders caused at least five minutes delay.<\/p>\n

The culprits, who appeared to throw about orange powder, wore Just Stop Oil t-shirts, an environmental activist group from the UK.<\/p>\n

England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow picked up one of the protesters and dragged them off Lord's.<\/p>\n

Bairstow then had to head into the change room, presumably to swap his clothes. \ufeff<\/p>\n

England baffled by DRS call<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A frustrating day at the office for England was made worse by a number of DRS calls that went against them in the middle session.<\/p>\n

With the day well and truly in the balance, England thought it had dismissed both Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne, before the pair were both saved by reviews.<\/p>\n

Stuart Broad then thought he'd trapped Labuschagne lbw with an inswinger, before replays once again saved the Aussie No.3.<\/p>\n

Ashes debutant's 'peach' takes out Warner<\/strong><\/h3>\n

David Warner finally found the form he has been desperately searching for with a well-made half-century on day one.<\/p>\n

However, the veteran opener's innings was cut short by a ferocious delivery from England's Ashes debutant Josh Tongue.<\/p>\n

The vicious inswinger was described by Australian skipper Ricky Ponting as a "peach" and left Warner stunned himself as he heard the dreaded death rattle.<\/p>\n
