After England lost the first Ashes<\/a> Test by two wickets on a "soulless" Edgbaston pitch, ground staff at Lord's<\/a> look to have \ufeffprepared a green monster for the second Test starting Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

The Edgbaston wicket was heavily criticised for its slow nature. While the flatter wicket helped England<\/a> batters with their aggressive Bazball style of play, it also made it harder for their own fast bowlers to get a hold of the Australian batters in their own conditions.<\/p>\n

Veteran English quick Stuart Broad<\/a> described it as "soulless".<\/p>\n

Instead, ground staff have produced a much greener wicket that will likely see the ball move far more off the seam.<\/p>\n

However, as green as the pitch may appear now, it will no doubt be mown and rolled again before play, which will take some colour out of it.<\/p>\n

Broad and fellow quick Jimmy Anderson are the leading wicket-tackers in England's last four Tests at Lord's, with 14 each. The top-11 most successful bowlers at Lord's in that time are all quicks. Jack Leach is best of the spinners in 12th with just five wickets from his last three Lord's Tests.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, \ufeffAussie fast bowler Mitchell Starc said he's none the wiser of his place in the squad.<\/p>\n

Starc was left out of the side that beat England by two wickets at Edgbaston<\/a>, and has been tipped to replace Scott Boland for the Lord's Test.<\/p>\n

But less than 48 hours from the toss, Starc said he's been given no indication by selectors or the coaching staff if he will play.<\/p>\n

"I haven't gotten any indication either way, so your guess is as good as mine until the selectors decide," Starc told media.<\/p>\n

Just over two weeks since the World Test Championship final against India, Starc said he feels as though he's bowling better now than he was then.<\/p>\n

"I probably came into that game feeling pretty good, but my rhythm wasn't quite there," Starc said. "So it's been a nice couple of weeks of work now to work back into that rhythm.<\/p>\n

"I think we were all probably better for the run after that Test final at The Oval and I certainly feel less clunky now than I did through the game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Hopefully that results in some good stuff if and when I play. It's all in good order. It's just about getting some time in the middle when my chance comes."<\/p>\n

The Aussies welcomed a quick of a different sort to their training session on Monday evening (AEST), with Aussie F1 gun Oscar Piastri making an appearance.<\/p>\n

The McLaren rookie had a bat and a bowl, but won't be making his Test debut any time soon.<\/p>\n
