READ MORE:<\/strong> Captain Cummins, Lyon lift Aussies to 'famous victory'\ufeff<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n READ MORE:<\/strong> Ashes villain 'dragged away' from tense Khawaja spat\ufeff<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n READ MORE:<\/strong> Lockyer blasts Hunt's State of Origin 'distraction'\ufeff<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n He'll continue to test himself abroad when he races over 1500 metres in Ostrava, Czech Republic next Wednesday morning (AEST), over 800 metres in Pfungstadt on July 6 and over 1500 metres in Lyon, France on July 9.<\/p>\n Why Myers is relaxed, and optimistic about winning, stretches far beyond his precocious talent.<\/p>\n When\ufeff Wide World of Sports dug deeper, curious about the robust mental armoury of a kid with zero overseas racing experience, the emerging superstar spoke of his deeply ingrained winning attitude, his hard training and his invaluable training buddies.<\/p>\n "I'd just say that I've got the competitive mindset that I want to win races," Myers told Wide World of Sports.<\/p>\n "I'm going to go into every race thinking that I've got a chance to win. I mean, at the end of the day I might not win, but I'm going to at least have that mindset going into the races and put myself in the best position to capitalise on that.<\/p>\n "At the start of the season you're running and you're always the underdog. You don't have that much pressure on you to compete. Even now I don't really put too much pressure on myself, but there is that element that you're expected to compete and perform at a certain level … It doesn't really faze me.<\/p>\n "When you do the work in training it's just another thing you've got to do, I suppose … I don't try to think about it too much and I just sort of go out and do it. Races are going to be tough and you're going to have bad ones, you're going to have good ones, but if you train well you're going to come through and you're going to start to feel it, I suppose.<\/p>\n "When you're surrounded by and training with some of the best in Australia and the world it gives you that competitive advantage," the young gun added.<\/p>\n Among the brilliant and much more experienced athletes Myers hammers along with in training, often at high altitude at Perisher or Jindabyne, are Peter Bol<\/a>, Joseph Deng, Jye Edwards, Rorey Hunter and Leanne Pompeani<\/a>.<\/p>\n Those five runners combine for a haul of major championship representation, national records and high-profile victories.<\/p>\n Myers admits that as he was plugging away in training 12 months ago\ufeff he didn't expect to be in Europe taking on the world this year.<\/p>\n But a breathtaking domestic campaign set him up for the earlier-than-expected trip.<\/p>\n He clocked 3:55.44 in Melbourne's John Landy Mile in February,\ufeff running faster than Jakob Ingebrigsten did over the mile distance at the same age.<\/p>\n The run made him the second-youngest person in history on record to run a sub-four-minute mile, Ingebrigsten edging him by just nine days.\ufeff<\/p>\n The Norwegian freak has had a remarkable rise since scorching through a mile in Oslo in 3:56.29 as a 16-year-old, winning Olympic gold, becoming a world champion and clinching the long-standing men's two-mile world record<\/a>.<\/p>\n He's done all of that and is yet to turn 23.<\/p>\n On top of eclipsing Ingebrigsten, Myers broke national junior records on five occasions throughout his sparkling domestic season, setting sizzling times over the 1500-metre, mile and 3000-metre distances.<\/p>\n He also took on fully grown men in the Australian national championships and clinched silver in the 1500 metres<\/a>.<\/p>\n Yet as his overseas debut looms, he's in an even better shape.<\/p>\n "I'm definitely really excited. It's just an experience that's so surreal to me still. I didn't expect 12 months ago that I'd be heading to Europe right now, so I'm very excited for it," Myers said.<\/p>\n "I really want to run fast and I think being in some fast races with some fast guys is definitely going to put me up there … I don't want to write down any numbers regarding times, but I know I'm fit and I know I've been training well, so I definitely think the results will speak for themselves.<\/p>\n "My 800-metre personal best is pretty old. I haven't run an 800 in a year and a half, so I know in that respect I'm going to improve quite a lot.<\/p>\n "And the 1500-metre one, as well \u2014 I'm doing sessions that I probably couldn't have done maybe two or three months ago, when I was training for nationals. I know I'm definitely fitter than what I was, so I think the goal is to just run faster than I ever have.<\/p>\n "I want to be able to be competitive and put myself in a position to win every race that I enter. Ultimately the goal is going to be to win races, but it's also to run as fast as I can.<\/p>\n "I think I'm going to have to be running a personal best to be satisfied."<\/p>\n Myers said he and coaching guru Dick Telford had pinpointed his race in Ostrava as the most significant of his European tour.<\/p>\n The youngster will lace up for the Ostrava Golden Spike, which has gold-level status on the World Athletics Continental Tour.<\/p>\n "That's going to be the focus for the trip and the race that I really try to attack.<\/p>\n "It's going to be the first of many," he added, talking about overseas competition.<\/p>\n "It's going to be preparation for world juniors next year.
