A stunning solo effort from Cowboys<\/a> fullback Scott Drinkwater has seen North Queensland<\/a> snatch an improbable victory against the Panthers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Late in the second half of golden point extra time, Drinkwater danced around three Panthers defenders to score the match-winning try.<\/p>\n

After a sluggish start to the season, the 27-23 home victory lifts the Cowboys to the cusp of the top eight.<\/p>\n

"What a great game and an extraordinary finish," Phil Gould said during Nine's coverage.<\/p>\n

\ufeffAn error from Tyrone Peachey gave the Cowboys field position, but they looked to have bottled it when a rushing Panthers defence stymied their field goal attempts.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffYeah, we went through three sets of hands for a field goal [and] I just got told to hold it," Drinkwater told Queensland legend Darren Lockyer on Nine's coverage.<\/p>\n

"I knew their left winger wasn't there, so I started to head that way and … decided just to back myself and paid off."<\/p>\n

Both sides were missing five players each for Origin duties, plus the Panthers were also without Nathan Cleary.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"That was awesome. Both teams missing a lot of stars. The people that came in did the job for both sides. Unreal game. Unreal footy," Drinkwater said.<\/p>\n

"It was pleasing to win that. Plenty of chances and kind of caked it a bit, errors and stuff. But we come out on top."<\/p>\n

The Panthers flexed their muscle in the opening half, at times making the Cowboys' goal-line defence look paper thin.<\/p>\n

However, a late flurry of tries from the Cowboys soon saw the scores locked at 22 points a piece with 18 minutes remaining.<\/p>\n

In the 78th minute,\ufeff Chad Townsend edged the Cowboys in front with a one-point field goal before Jack Cogger responded on the verge of full-time to force the game to golden point.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the Panthers\ufeff needed just three minutes to land the opening blow when Jack Cogger positioned the ball with pin-point accuracy for Izack Tago.<\/p>\n

The Cowboys hit back with two tries in quick succession – Tom Dearden firstly setting up Drinkwater before scoring himself.<\/p>\n

The Panther took an eight-point lead into half time \ufeffafter tries to Tago, Jaeman Salmon and Tom Jenkins.<\/p>\n

Teen sensation Kulikefu Finefeuiaki scored his first NRL try to keep the Cowboys within striking distance before Kyle Feldt scored the equaliser with a stunning one-handed try.<\/p>\n

With a host of Origin heroes already unavailable, the win was soured for the Cowboys by an injury to\ufeff Heilum Luki.<\/p>\n

After copping a heavy elbow, the second-rower went off for a head injury assessment, which he subsequently passed.<\/p>\n

However\ufeff, he did not return to the field with the Cowboys' medicos concerned he had suffered a fractured cheekbone.<\/p>\n
