St George Illawarra Dragons<\/a> captain Ben Hunt<\/a> has admitted there's still uncertainty around his spot at the club after Shane Flanagan<\/a> was appointed head coach.<\/p>\n

Flanagan will replace Anthony Griffin in 2024, after the Dragons announced the decision on Wednesday<\/a><\/p>\n

Hunt – who is contracted until the end of 2025 – met with Flanagan<\/a> before he was confirmed for the role but was also a major supporter of Griffin.<\/p>\n

Speaking ahead of State of Origin II, the Maroons and Dragons halfback explained he was pleased to see the club finally end its coaching search.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffIt's exciting, I'm glad they've gone with an experienced coach, I think that needed to happen down there, someone that knows how to run a club and has been there before," he said from Origin camp.<\/p>\n

"The main thing I'm just glad they've finally come to a decision and got someone in there and everyone can move on now."<\/p>\n

Despite the satisfaction of finally having certainty over the head coach, Hunt wasn't willing to confirm his future is sorted. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"I don't know yet, I've got to \ufeffget down there and talk to Flanno and the staff and go from there," he said.<\/p>\n

"At the moment I'm focused on winning (Origin) on Wednesday."<\/p>\n

Hunt's \ufeffcomments will be a concern for Dragons powerbrokers as they desperately attempt to change the tide of a club that hasn't appeared in finals since 2018.<\/p>\n

However, the halfback did admit the appointment of Flanagan – who won the premiership with Cronulla in 2016 – is a step in the right direction.<\/p>\n

"It definitely \ufeffhelps that you've got a coach that can turn a club around from wooden spooners to premiership winners in two years, that's probably part of the decision making that the board made," he said.<\/p>\n

"They wanted someone that could turn it around quickly."<\/p>\n
