hammered over State of Origin treachery<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Several revisions were made thereafter to the SpeedSeries calendar with the TCR Australia Series calendar not finalised until earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>The governing body&#x27;s motorsport and commercial operations director Michael Smith spoke with Wide World of Sports at the latest SpeedSeries event where he outlined the plans for 2024 and beyond.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"138e193f-8eba-40fb-b1ec-fe3b71281b9d\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/138e193f-8eba-40fb-b1ec-fe3b71281b9d-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"The TCR Australia Series has been the defacto headline category for the SpeedSeries.\" data-width=\"3000\" data-height=\"2000\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This year&#x27;s SpeedSeries calendar included trips to Symmons Plains, Phillip Island, Winton, Ipswich, Sandown, and Mount Panorama for the Bathurst 6 Hour and Bathurst International.<\/p>\n<p>Smith said much of that will remain the same, although a question mark hangs over Winton&#x27;s place on the calendar.<\/p>\n<p>Supercars has made plenty of noise about expanding its calendar to 15 events, and Winton has been rumoured to be part of that plan.<\/p>\n<p>This year, SpeedSeries visited Winton effectively in place of Supercars.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"21d7196d-4889-48fd-8f4c-1ac31f05fbbd\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/21d7196d-4889-48fd-8f4c-1ac31f05fbbd-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"The National Trans Am Series has been the standout category of 2023 for the SpeedSeries program.\" data-width=\"3000\" data-height=\"2000\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It marked the first time the SpeedSeries suite of categories featured there since debuting in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Whether the rural Victorian circuit can host both Supercars and SpeedSeries on separate dates in 2024 is not clear.<\/p>\n<p>In any case, Smith is targeting a four-to-six-week gap between events next year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I wouldn&#x27;t say it&#x27;s necessarily off the cards at the moment,&quot; said Smith of a SpeedSeries return to Winton.<\/p>\n<p><img data-video-id=\"6329145698112\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/pickerimage-62.jpg\" alt=\"New TCR title contender emerges\" data-vms-id=\"ref:clipny9ur000o0jruribaogek\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&quot;Like all things, we&#x27;ll go away after this weekend, we&#x27;ll have a look at it. Did it work for the fans? Did it work for the competitors?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We&#x27;ve made no secret of the fact that we&#x27;d like to go to some new venues and Perth and Darwin are two venues that we&#x27;d certainly like to look at going to \u2013 maybe not next year, could be the year after \u2013 so we&#x27;ll explore those opportunities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&quot;So I&#x27;m not saying &#x27;no, we won&#x27;t come back to Winton&#x27;, but like all things we&#x27;ll review it after this round and see where we land.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;There might be a little bit of a shuffling of the deck chairs in terms of venues and dates,&quot; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We haven&#x27;t really finalised all of that yet. You always want to go to the warm parts of the country in those windows.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I think for the most part, we&#x27;ll go to many of the same venues that we&#x27;ve been to this year, but there could be some variances in the dates in that.&quot;<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"fce7fa7f-65e6-417b-a68c-068960527ae8\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/fce7fa7f-65e6-417b-a68c-068960527ae8-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"GT World Challenge Australia is the only Australian Racing Group-owned category to feature at Wanneroo Raceway in 2023, albeit with Supercars.\" data-width=\"3000\" data-height=\"2000\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Smith said he&#x27;s &quot;pretty pleased&quot; with how the 2023 season has run to date.<\/p>\n<p>Although the SpeedSeries brand debuted last year, this year marks the first time all Motorsport Australia championships and Australian Racing Group events have run under one banner.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Overall, we&#x27;re pretty pleased with this year,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;It&#x27;s the first year of the SpeedSeries brand (with Motorsport Australia) and I think in fairness, in previous years we&#x27;ve probably suffered a little bit from an identity crisis.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Is it Motorsport Australia? Is it Shannons Nationals? Is it ARG? And I think certainly this year with the combined branding and the way that we&#x27;re approaching the events platform, has been really, really positive.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The broadcast that we&#x27;ve got with Stan and Nine, I think has been really, really effective this year. So overall we&#x27;re really, really pleased with where we sit.&quot;<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"ea2b4346-dcec-4a27-962a-65bd6859e0ef\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/ea2b4346-dcec-4a27-962a-65bd6859e0ef-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Touring Car Masters, another Australian Racing Group-owned category, has split its calendar between Supercars and SpeedSeries.\" data-width=\"3000\" data-height=\"2000\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A highlight of the season still to come is the season-ending Bathurst International and the Sydney Motorsport Park night event which precedes it.<\/p>\n<p>Those events will form part of the TCR World Tour, which is expected to see a healthy group of cars head Down Under.<\/p>\n<p>That could boost the grid to upwards of 30 cars for those two events.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;There will be a whole bunch of cars and international drivers coming out for the last two rounds of our championship here and they&#x27;re the best in the world,&quot; said Smith.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Purely from a sporting point of view, it&#x27;ll be good to benchmark our talent here against the best in the world<\/p>\n<p>&quot;From a holistic point of view, it&#x27;s just another world-class event in motorsport that we&#x27;re bringing to this country and that can only be a positive thing for the sport.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>SpeedSeries returns on August 11-13 at Queensland Raceway, Ipswich for its fifth event of the season.<\/p>\n<p>That event will feature the TCR Australia Series, National Trans Am Series, GT World Challenge Australia, Porsche Sprint Challenge, V8 Touring Cars, and Australian Production Cars\/GT4.<\/p>\n<p><img data-video-id=\"6327456292112\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/pickerimage-63.jpg\" alt=\"Closest finish in Trans Am history\" data-vms-id=\"ref:clhn10s64001p0jqfuqyd6az3\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Australian Racing Group-owned categories which race solely on the SpeedSeries program are the TCR Australia Series, National Trans Am Series, and V8 Touring Car Series.<\/p>\n<p>TCR and Trans Am feature at all SpeedSeries events, bar the Bathurst 6 Hour.\ufeff<\/p>\n<p>S5000, GT World Challenge Australia, and Touring Car Masters are split across SpeedSeries and Supercars.<\/p>\n<p>SpeedSeries features other non-Australian Racing Group-owned categories including, but not limited to, Porsche Sprint Challenge, National Sports Sedans\ufeff, Australian Productions Cars\/GT4, and Formula Ford.<\/p>\n<h2>2023 SpeedSeries calendar:<\/h2>\n<p>Round 1: Race Tasmania, Symmons Plains \u2013 February 24-26<\/p>\n<p>Round 2: Bathurst 6 Hour \u2013 April 7-9<\/p>\n<p>Round 3: Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit\u2013 May 12-14<\/p>\n<p>Round 4: Race Winton \u2013 June 9-11<\/p>\n<p>Round 5: Queensland Raceway \u2013 August 11-13<\/p>\n<p>Round 6: Sandown International Raceway \u2013 September 8-10<\/p>\n<p>Round 7: Sydney Motorsport Park \u2013 November 3-5<\/p>\n<p>Round 8: Bathurst International (TCR World Tour) \u2013 November 10-12<\/p>\n<p>\ufeff<em><strong>For a daily dose of the best of the breaking news and exclusive content from Wide World of Sports, subscribe to our newsletter by<\/strong><\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/login.nine.com.au\/login?client_id=wwos&amp;redirect_uri=https%3A%2F%2Fwwos.nine.com.au&amp;newsletter=true\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>clicking here<\/strong><\/em><\/a><em><strong>!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Motorsport Australia is optimistic it can expand the SpeedSeries calendar to the Northern Territory and Western Australia in years to come.
