Richmond<\/a> has stood down premiership star Marlion Pickett<\/a> for at least a week while he's accused of serious burglary offences<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Club CEO \ufeffBrendon Gale confirmed Pickett will not be available to play Saturday's game against St Kila, but said he may be available for the clash with Brisbane in three weeks.<\/p>\n

"He wanted to play. Naturally, you wouldn't expect anything else," Gale told media on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

"We thought it was the right decision made in his best interests. We are very mindful of his welfare."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Pickett was bailed by a Perth magistrate on Monday<\/a> and permitted to fly home to Victoria after being arrested on Sunday, a day after helping the Tigers beat Fremantle in the Western Australia capital.<\/p>\n

Pickett is facing 12 charges including four counts of aggravated burglary, three counts of stealing and three counts of criminal damage.<\/p>\n

Gale revealed the club found out "late last week" of the impending arrest, and the Tigers decided to let Pickett play on Saturday regardless.<\/p>\n

He says Pickett "willingly" went to the police station to be interviewed.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The club boss defended the decision not to stand Pickett down while the case ran its course.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"At the end of the day these are allegations," Gale said.<\/p>\n

"We are going to operate on the presumption that he's innocent. Justice will run its course.<\/p>\n

"We think the best thing for him is to be back here engaging in this club."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Pickett, 31, became a fairytale AFL story when he was picked to make his debut in the 2019 grand final, and played a starring role as the Tigers beat the Giants.<\/p>\n

A year later he was again in the team to win a second flag with Richmond.<\/p>\n

He has played 70 AFL games to date but is out of contract at the end of this year.\ufeff<\/p>\n
