O\ufeffne emoji has proved costly for Indian<\/a> opener Shubman Gill after he was fined 15 per cent of his match fee for a tweet criticising a TV umpire's call<\/a> during the Test championship final.<\/p>\n

Gill was less than impressed when third umpire Richard Kettleborough decided that Cam Green<\/a> had managed to get his fingers under the ball during a catch to dismiss the right-handed opener in India's second innings.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old shared a still which appeared to show the ball touching the turf as Green attempted to catch it, which attracted a fine and breached the ICC's code of conduct with relation to "public criticism or inappropriate comment in relation to an incident occurring in an international match".<\/p>\n

Gill was not the only Indian player to criticise the decision, with Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also perturbed after seeing his side crash to a 209-run defeat.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I just felt disappointed. I mean, the third umpire should have seen a little more replays, a little more of, you know, how the catch has been held," he said.<\/p>\n

"I think it was three or four times he saw, and he was convinced with it. It's not about whether it was given out or not out, you need to have a proper and clear information about anything. It's just not about the catch, it can be about anything."<\/p>\n

Gill has accepted his personal sanction, and has now effectively paid to play in the final after he and his teammates were fined 100 per cent of their match fee for slow over rates in the final.<\/p>\n

Australia faired little better, being docked 80 per cent of their match fee for the same reason.\ufeff<\/p>\n
