Coming into the Broncos clash with the Knights<\/a>, many believed Adam Reynolds<\/a> was auditioning for a \ufeffNSW Blues jersey after Nathan Cleary's injury<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Broncos<\/a> halfback did himself no harm, producing a vintage performance to score the match-winning try and lead the Broncos to a 24-20 victory.<\/p>\n

Reynolds will contend with Nicho Hynes and Mitchell Moses for the No.7 jersey, and while stating his focus was on the Broncos, did admit he'd "love to" return to the Origin arena.<\/p>\n

Broncos and Queensland fullback Reece Walsh \ufeffsaid he'd rather not be playing against his skipper come Origin II.<\/p>\n

"I hope he doesn't get the phone call," he laughed.<\/p>\n

"He's been at the top of his game this year … that was a tough game, and he was just taking control, at the back end of that game his kicking game was just outstanding and I'm pretty sure that's what got us the result tonight.<\/p>\n

"If he's in that Blues team they're going to be pretty strong, I just hope he's not in it."<\/p>\n

Walsh had his own Origin battle with the man he took the Queensland jersey from in Kalyn Ponga with both men going at each other.<\/p>\n

Ponga ran past Walsh to score his first try, with the Knights captain cracking a wry smile when asked about it at half-time.<\/p>\n

Then with five minutes left in the game, the Broncos fullback accelerated towards him and created heavy contact off a kick return. Both men were captured in a happy embrace at full-time though with Walsh complimenting his opponent post-game.<\/p>\n

"Obviously as a kid I grew up watching KP play, to be able to share the field with him is a dream come true," he said.<\/p>\n

Newcastle came into the game full of energy, and at half-time had a 10-6 lead thanks to tries from Dominic Young and Ponga, while Selwyn Cobbo scored for Brisbane.<\/p>\n

Cobbo then put the Broncos ahead in the second half but a Knights blitz meant they led \ufeff20-12 after 60 minutes thanks to tries from Mat Croker and Young.<\/p>\n

The Broncos didn't go away though, with Brendan Piakura scoring his first NRL try eight minutes later while Reynolds scored the match-winner in the 77th minute after a beautiful exchange of passing from Kobe Hetherington and Ezra Mam. The latter flick passed to Reynolds for a try assist with NRL expert Shane Flanagan describing it as "silky" and "beautiful" on commentary. \ufeff<\/p>\n
