IndyCar<\/a> is expected to make changes to the Road America circuit after a testing incident in which Scott McLaughlin<\/a> struck a kerb and flew through the air.<\/p>\n

The Team Penske driver posted onboard footage to social media of the incident in which he appeared to run wide at turn one.<\/p>\n

McLaughlin drove over the rumble strip, launching him into the air upon returning from the run-off area.<\/p>\n

The airborne moment blew a hole in the bottom of his car. Thankfully, the Kiwi escaped injury.<\/p>\n

"Speed bumps on racetracks are bad," he wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n

"Flew car 85ft and put a hole in the underwing, but we good.<\/p>\n

"Back is fine. Very lucky. Finished the day off, we had a great day," he added in another tweet.<\/p>\n

"But I know IndyCar officials are already making sure that's gone for race weekend!"<\/p>\n

Incidents like McLaughlin's are rare but have become more common with the introduction of large speedhump-like kerbs at circuits.<\/p>\n

The 'sausage kerbs' have come under scrutiny at times for causing back fractures.<\/p>\n

Sim racer turned real-life racer, Jimmy Broadbent, criticised the Road America kerbs in response to McLaughlin's video.<\/p>\n

"(People) need to stop putting launch strips on race tracks," he wrote.<\/p>\n

"Apparently numerous broken backs and airborne race cars still isn't enough to stop them popping up."<\/p>\n

McLaughlin sits seventh in the drivers' standings after the Detroit Grand Prix.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The IndyCar Series resumes at Road America on June 19.<\/p>\n
