Thanasi Kokkinakis' entertaining run at Roland-Garros is over after losing in four sets to the 11th seed Karen Khachanov.<\/a><\/p>\n

It looked like the Australian \ufeffwould force a fifth set against the Russian as he led the fourth set tiebreak 4-1 at Court Simonne-Mathieu on Friday night (AEST).<\/p>\n

But the 27-year-old's standards slipped at that point as \ufeffKhachanov rallied for a 6-4, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (5) third round win.<\/p>\n

"I was getting ready for the fifth… he is one of the nicest guys on tour," Khachanov said.<\/p>\n

"The crowd was more for him. I don't know what to do? You don't love me?! It was a really crazy match."<\/p>\n

Indeed, it looked like the wheels might fall off for Kokkinakis in a one sided second set, in which he lashed out at Polish chair umpire Katarzyna Radwan-Cho.<\/p>\n

Kokkinakis was livid in the second game when Radwan-Cho did not replay a point after a tight baseline call.<\/p>\n

"Kokkinakis changed his mentality on the shot, didn't he, when he heard the call? He was expecting a replay of the point and then he heard the umpire call the game score at 0-15," commentator Brenton Speed said on Nine's coverage.<\/p>\n

"If he calls at the same time as I make contact, that's hindering. No? What's the rule then if I'm making contact and he's calling out? Is that not hindrance? You're wrong," Kokkinakis told Radwan-Cho.<\/p>\n

\ufeffKokkinakis, who copped boos and whistles from the Paris crowd for his protestations, then struggled to regain composure on serve.<\/p>\n

"For f—'s sake, this chick's useless, mate\ufeff," Kokkinakis fumed.<\/p>\n

While not agreeing with Kokkinakis' language, tennis great Todd Woodbridge said he had reason to be frustrated.<\/p>\n

"It's not a great call. I think I agree with Thanasi," Woodbridge said.<\/p>\n

"The call came, as he explained, at the same time, and if you hear it you don't finish your stroke properly. You don't need to. He's going to have to absorb that somehow.<\/p>\n

"It's not going to be easy."<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, \ufeffJessica Pegula quickly gathered her belongings and marched out of Court Philippe Chatrier after a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Elise Mertens in the third round, a far earlier exit than the third seed American has been used to at grand slam tournaments lately.<\/p>\n

Pegula was a quarter-finalist at four of the five most recent majors, including a year ago at Roland-Garros.<\/p>\n

She's never gone further than that stage at a slam and never really got into this match against the 28th-seeded Mertens.<\/p>\n

"I feel like I was still playing good points. Elise was just being really tough, not making a lot of errors and making me play every single ball. And with the windy conditions, I felt like it definitely played into her game," Pegula said.<\/p>\n

"She returned well and I thought that she used the wind on both sides to her advantage.<\/p>\n

"She was playing aggressive on the side with the wind and then, against the wind, I think she was playing some really good defence."<\/p>\n
