Outgoing Rugby Australia<\/a> CEO Andy Marinos is set to be replaced by former Wallabies<\/a> captain Phil Waugh, according to reports.<\/p>\n

Waugh's appointment hasn't been ratified by the Rugby Australia board just yet but is merely a "formality" according to the Sydney Morning Herald<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Since Marinos announced his departure, Waugh has been rumoured as the go-to replacement.<\/p>\n

Waugh and incumbent chairman Hamish McLennan are known to be close allies within the organisation.<\/p>\n

The 43-year-old has been a member of the board since 2018 and is part of the governing body's Rugby Committee.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Herald reports Waugh impressed his fellow board members in a presentation to them recently.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Waugh played 79 Tests for Australia between 2000 and 2009 and captained the side on three occasions.<\/p>\n

The Sydneysider has worked for Westpac, the Commonwealth Bank, and more recently NAB.<\/p>\n

It's also reported McLennan told the Herald an interim CEO would not be needed and a suitable replacement would be found in time for Marinos' departure in June.<\/p>\n

Marinos will officially stand down from his post on June 14.<\/p>\n

It's said Marinos and McLennan had a falling out over the signing of NRL star Joseph Suaalii and the $8 million, five-year deal to play for the Wallabies and NSW Waratahs.<\/p>\n
