T\ufeffhe horse racing world is in mourning after the death of 2013 Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente after battling an ongoing chronic illness.<\/p>\n
After being narrowly beaten by Green Moon in 2012 Melbourne Cup, Fiorente took out the iconic race 12 months later with the help of champion jockey Damien Oliver.<\/p>\n
Fiorente was trained by iconic trainer Gai Waterhouse, who expressed her sadness at the horse's death.<\/p>\n
"I was deeply saddened to hear the passing of Fiorente," she said in a statement on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n
"He gave me the greatest joy of my racing life winning the Melbourne Cup in 2013.<\/p>\n
"He was the most beautiful horse to train, so talented and handsome, and he took everything before him."<\/p>\n
