Queensland<\/a> assistant coach Josh Hannay wasn't fazed to see the Maroons' right edge torn apart by a reserve grade team during an opposed session.<\/p>\n

The Ipswich Jets – who sit bottom of the Queensland Cup ladder – beat the state's best players to score two tries during a scrimmage session ahead of Wednesday's State of Origin<\/a> opener.<\/p>\n

Onlookers noted Maroons captain Daly Cherry-Evans<\/a> was infuriated and sprayed the right-edge combination of Selwyn Cobbo<\/a> (wing), Valentine Holmes<\/a> (centre), and Tom Gilbert (second row).<\/p>\n

Many would consider them lucky they now won't have to mark Latrell Mitchell at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday, after the superstar Blues centre withdrew due to a calf injury.<\/p>\n

While Hannay admits it's not ideal to see an Origin side outdone by a far lesser team, he is looking at the positives.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffYeah, it wasn't perfect, but that's the beauty of training right?" Hannay told Nine's The Billy Slater Podcast<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

"You always get worried when practice is perfect because it can lull you into a false sense of security.<\/p>\n

"We had a few warts in our practice, if you like, that first session we did together but we love that.<\/p>\n

"It's important you learn those lessons at training so you don't make those mistakes in the game.<\/p>\n

"No problems with any mistakes that were made at training, it's a great way to learn and get better."<\/p>\n

Queensland controversially axed long-time centre Dane Gagai for game one, raising questions about the Maroons' defensive plan for Mitchell.<\/p>\n

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow looked set to mark Mitchell, but following his withdrawal on Monday, Holmes has been put back at right centre.<\/p>\n

Last week former Queensland forward Darryl Brohman laid bare his concerns about Holmes defending Mitchell<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI'd never seen Val have a bad game until the (round 12 loss to Wests Tigers), he was terrible," Brohman told Wide World of Sports' Six Tackles with Gus<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"I reckon he missed eight tackles on Starford To'a. I'm hoping Val is seething from that effort.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Holmes is now expected to mark Stephen Crichton – who replaces Mitchell in the Blues side – in game\ufeff one.<\/p>\n
