Cameron Norrie was accused of causing a "hindrance" during his marathon five-set victory over Benoit Paire at Roland-Garros<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After going down two sets to one, the Brit scored a memorable comeback win, 7-5, 4-6, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, yet his temper was tested on several occasions against the local hope as he battled the Paris heat and a loud home crowd.<\/p>\n

He also had to combat the umpire, Nico Helwerth, who accused Norrie of making a loud noise to throw off Paire during a rally in the third game of the second set at 30-30.<\/p>\n

Locked at 1-1\ufeff in the second frame, the umpire ruled Norrie celebrated prematurely and yelled "yeah" for what he thought was a decisive shot during the exchange.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"I consider what you shouted now as a hindrance," Helwerth explained when Norrie walked over to his chair to discuss the incident.<\/p>\n

"The ball was still in play. That is what it sounded like to me."<\/p>\n

Norrie contested the call and suggested it was a grunt amidst the rally.<\/p>\n

"I just grunted! No?"<\/p>\n

Helwerth said: "You didn't grunt before. For me, that sounded like you said 'yeah'. I might be wrong, but\u2026"<\/p>\n

While the crowd on a packed Court Suzanne-Lenglen played up to the exchange, making for an even tenser atmosphere, Norrie prevailed despite going on to lose the second and third sets. Throughout the rollercoaster mid-part of the match he was showered with boos when he challenged calls or even made changes to his ball toss.<\/p>\n

"Both of us didn't know why he called it. We were confused. It was a grunt," Norrie said after the match.<\/p>\n

"I don't know why he felt it was necessary to get involved there.<\/p>\n

"Especially as he gave me no warning whatsoever and it was a big point. It ultimately changed the momentum of the match.<\/p>\n

"I'm here playing tennis, competing as hard as I can, and then he does that, on a pretty big point.<\/p>\n

"Maybe if I spoke to him now he'll think he's wrong, but at the end of the day, I'm fighting my a– off and one call could obviously influence the match. It changed the momentum, for sure.<\/p>\n

"For me, it was strange. He must have thought that I said something, and I think for him to get involved there was absurd. Even with Evo yesterday, I watched that, and he was nowhere near foot-faulting and the guy is calling him on the other side of the net.<\/p>\n

"There is no warning. There is no, like, 'You're getting a little bit close to the line here'. With me, maybe, 'You're grunting too long on one point'.<\/p>\n

"We're all competing as hard as we can, and I did my best to try and not let it bother me. I've never been called for that before, ever. I think it's unacceptable. If he makes a decision wrong, there's no consequences. For me, if I do something wrong, there's consequences."<\/p>\n
