Pato O'Ward says he won't give an inch the next time he goes wheel-to-wheel with Marcus Ericsson after a controversial clash in the dying laps of the Indianapolis 500<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The McLaren driver had been passed for second place on the penultimate restart with a handful of laps to go when he mounted a comeback.<\/p>\n

O'Ward feigned right then swung left as he sought to go to the Chip Ganassi Racing driver's inside on approach to turn three.<\/p>\n

O'Ward got alongside Ericsson into the corner but took to the lower apron, feeling he was being squeezed.<\/p>\n

The Mexican got loose before his right front wheel made light contact with Ericsson's left rear, sending O'Ward into a high-speed spin.<\/p>\n

Ericsson hung onto a slide while O'Ward slammed hard into the outside wall, wrecking his car.<\/p>\n

Asked whether he thought he had been squeezed, O'Ward replied, "Yeah, very accurate.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I just think I was a little too nice there. I just feel so bummed for the team. We had four very fast race cars and now there's only two in the race.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"There was seven laps to go. I was going to be going for it. I was way too nice and I'll make sure he comes with me next time.<\/p>\n

"Like I said, I was way too nice. I got on the apron to give him room. I got squeezed. I won't forget that one."<\/p>\n

In the melee, Simon Pagenaud got caught out as the field checked up. He copped a hit by Scott McLaughlin, which sent the Meyer Shank Racing driver around and into the wall.<\/p>\n

Agustin Canapino of Juncos Hollinger Racing spun in sympathy. Damage to his car meant he couldn't slow down enough and clattered into O'Ward's stationary car.<\/p>\n

The incident was not investigated and as such Ericsson faced no penalty, despite O'Ward's grievances.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ericsson went on to finish second in the race, falling just short of the win which went the way of Josef Newgarden<\/a>.\ufeff<\/p>\n
