The fresh doping allegations against Simona Halep<\/a> are the largest ever levelled at a former world No.1, according to Jelena Dokic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Halep first tested positive for Roxadustat \u2014 an anti-anaemia drug that promotes the production of red blood cells \u2014 at last year's US Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Halep was "devastated" by the allegations. Her former coach Darren Cahill said there was "no way"<\/a> she had knowingly taken the substance.<\/p>\n

But last week, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) charged Halep with a second offence, alleging irregularities in her athlete biological passport<\/a>\ufeff.<\/p>\n

Dokic said the allegations surrounding her biological passport \u2014 which provide a baseline reading of substances in an athlete's body and are considered a way to help chart doping \u2014 are far worse than the positive test.<\/p>\n

"That means that there's been something going on for a while," Dokic said on Nine's Sports Sunday<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"She has always said this is a case of contamination, this would prove otherwise. This is the biggest \u2026 allegation we've had for a former world No.1."<\/p>\n

Halep spent 64 weeks as world No.1 across two separate stints at the top in 2018 and 2019.<\/p>\n

Dokic said the passport allegations mean Halep is fighting for more than her career.<\/p>\n

"I know Simona. Everyone in the tennis world that does know her knows what an incredible fighter and competitor she is," she said.<\/p>\n

"She's always fought for being in a clean sport. Her reputation and name to her is massive, more than titles, more than grand slams."<\/p>\n

Halep was supposed to face a hearing in February, before it was postponed to March, and then to May, and now to June.<\/p>\n

She said the delays were "killing her reputation".<\/p>\n

"I have asked, as the rules of the anti-doping state it, for a quick hearing. This is my right, it is written in the rules," Halep wrote on Twitter last week.<\/p>\n

"Unfortunately the ITIA has postponed my hearing three times.\ufeff Now I know that I will have missed the Australian Open, Roland-Garros and Wimbledon. Not to mention that I will have lost all my points and my ranking.<\/p>\n

"Not only are they killing my reputation, but also me as a professional player, and I don't even talk about the consequences on my mental health."<\/p>\n
