Geelong<\/a> young gun Sam De Koning<\/a> has taken to the field sporting an unusual-looking protective face mask for the Cats' clash with the Giants<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In his return match from a facial fracture, De Koning has debuted a black \ufeffnose guard – similar to those worn by Joel Embiid and Jaylen Brown in the NBA.<\/p>\n

The item was approved by the AFL and Geelong's medical team.<\/p>\n

De Koning had facial surgery earlier this month after suffering a nasal and maxillary fracture during the second half of the Cats' round seven victory over the Bombers. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's a big mask that will cover the majority of his face. I don't think we've ever seen it before in the AFL," reporter Sam Edmund told SEN's Crunch Time<\/em>.<\/p>\n

De Koning's \ufeffinclusion comes as a massive boost for the Cats who also regain promising recruit Ollie Henry from a ruptured testicle.<\/p>\n

The match at Kardinia Park is the first time brothers Ollie and Jack Henry have stepped out together wearing Geelong colours.<\/p>\n

Irish recruit Oisin Mullin has also taken to the field in his debut game.<\/p>\n

In his 200th AFL game, \ufeffToby Greene<\/a> scored the opener after crumbing the ball in front of goal and snapping truly.<\/p>\n
