Roger Federer has shrugged off any suggestion he plans to retire soon, with the 20-time Grand Slam winner to return to the court in March.<\/p>\n

Federer, who was forced to pull out of next month's Australian Open<\/a> due to a slower than expected recovery from knee surgery, has agreed to return to the ATP Tour in Doha next month.<\/p>\n

The 39-year-old said a return to the Australian Open "was a touch too early", with hopes a comeback at a smaller tournament would put less "stress" on his knee.<\/p>\n

"I've been thinking about when and where to come back for a long time," He told Swiss broadcaster SRF.<\/p>\n

"Australia was a touch too early because of my knee. That hurts. It's one of the places where I love to play the most."<\/p>\n

"I wanted to make my comeback at a smaller tournament so that I wasn't fully in focus and where the stress is also a little less."<\/p>\n

The Swiss maestro hasn't played in a Grand Slam match since his semi-final loss to Novak Djokovic at Melbourne Park at the start of 2020.<\/p>\n

Federer also made it known at least for now that his intentions are to continue playing tennis with hopes of reaching the top of the mountain once again.<\/p>\n

"I like to play tennis for life. In the last few months I have given a lot in rehab, in the conditioning area," he added.<\/p>\n

"I had to go through it, but I always enjoyed it. <\/p>\n

"I want to celebrate great victories again. And for that, I am ready to go the long, hard road."<\/p>\n
