R\ufeffichmond<\/a> CEO Brendon Gale has suggested the club is not afraid to turn to a previously untried coach to be Damien Hardwick<\/a>'s eventual full-time successor.<\/p>\n

Gale and the Tigers are suddenly on the hunt for a new senior coach after Hardwick shocked both his club and the AFL by pulling up stumps on an incredible 14-season tenure which yielded three premiership cups.<\/p>\n

The Richmond job is shaping up as being one of the more appealing coaching jobs available, with the Tigers still possessing \ufeffa number of elite players.<\/p>\n

While the likes of Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley have been linked with the role<\/a>, with Power great Kane Cornes suggesting the Tigers should approach the out-of-contract coach this week, Gale suggested the Tigers could go down a different path.<\/p>\n

\ufeffOf the last 19 coaches to have won AFL premierships, only one won a premiership at a second club, Mick Malthouse at Collingwood in 2010. Gale said the stat confirmed his belief in the direction of the Tigers' coach search.<\/p>\n

"I was speaking to someone today and I said my own intuition tells me this need to get a premiership coach is a bit of a myth, and that proves it," he told Nine's Footy Classified<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffOne of the great things about Damien, obviously he was tactically very smart, but he was able to grow with the team. <\/p>\n

"They (the players) were invested in him and he was certainly invested in them. So, that's a pretty important consideration."<\/p>\n

Gale was not prepared to say whether Richmond would attempt to get a coach from another club to break their contract to join the club.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe 54-year-old said Richmond was likely to adopt a coaching subcommittee to lead the search for Hardwick's replacement.<\/p>\n

"It won't be by myself, we've got too many smart people down there to rely on," he said.<\/p>\n

"We'll pull together a committee of people who can rely on each other's thinking and maybe rely on some independent people as well. <\/p>\n

"We'll then map out the attributes we look for in a coach today. How is the game evolving? What will it look like in 10 years' time? Damien really evolved and changed with the game and the way you coach elite sport. <\/p>\n

"Then it's a matter of looking at the market and seeing what sort of candidates would be attracted to coaching the Richmond Football Club, and we think there's many.\ufeff"<\/p>\n
