Tiger Woods<\/a> time in the golfing wilderness is set to be extended after the former world No.1 withdrew from the 2023 US Open which will be played from June 15.<\/p>\n

The 47-year-old has been suffering from a series of injuries and surgeries which \ufeffstopped him from finishing the US Masters tournament in April<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Woods revealed after the tournament that he had fusion surgery on his right ankle.<\/p>\n

The champion golfer wasn't expected to take part in the tournament but its the seventh one he's missed since his last top-10 finish in 2010. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Over the last three years, Woods has only competed in five of a possible 12 major tournaments. He finished 47th in the 2022 Masters.<\/p>\n

The US Golf Association announced Woods' withdrawal \ufeffwhile revealing 33 newly exempt players which includes Australian Jason Day. These exemptions bring the number of fully exempt players to 84.<\/p>\n

Day, who will compete in his 11th US Open and is a two-time runner-up, won the 2015 PGA Championship.<\/p>\n
