After declining a a $2.4 million contract extension with South Sydney, it's been revealed Latrell Mitchell's management has held talks about a move to Brisbane.<\/p>\n
The Indigenous star has been in negotiations with South Sydney about extending his time at Redfern, with the centre come fullback keen on a shorter deal worth more money each season.<\/p>\n

The Courier Mail<\/em> reports the Rabbitohs offered Mitchell a three-year deal but it was knocked back by the club's management.<\/p>\n "I can confirm we've had some discussions with the Broncos," a spokesman for Mitchell's management told the Courier Mail<\/em>.<\/p>\n "We spoke just prior to Christmas.<\/p>\n "At this stage, despite reports Latrell is a done deal at Souths, we haven't finalised anything.<\/p>\n "Souths have tried to put a deal together that will reflect Latrell's market value, but we've made it clear we aren't looking for a long-term deal."<\/p>\n While South Sydney remain confident of keeping Mitchell, the star's representative has received interest from at least 12 teams in the NRL, with the Broncos being one of several suitors.<\/p>\n However, many in the game view the move as a tactic to get Souths to fold to the star's demands of a shorter deal. His agents claim the Broncos are a "massive brand" worth considering.<\/p>\n "When they aren't on top of the NRL, they are a sleeping giant and it is only a matter of time before they bounce back again. The Broncos are arguably the biggest brand in Australian sport."<\/p>\n Mitchell's move to fullback was under the microscope during the early stages of the transition, but he was clearly adapting well during the 2020 season despite suffering a hamstring injury that cut his year short.<\/p>\n From 14 games with South Sydney at fullback – Mitchell had 15 try-assists and 26 line breaks and looked more confident in executing his duties at the back.<\/p>\n Although injury issues held him back last year, the two-time premiership winner still believes his value is best served through a shorter deal, posing more of risk to his overall value on the market.<\/p>\n Rugby league legend Mark Geyer disagrees with the approach despite huge talents across the globe doing the same in their respective sports.<\/p>\n "Latrell has long pined for that $1 million (a season) mark and I think it's a bold move on his part," Geyer said on Triple M.<\/p>\n "He's coming off a major injury to his hamstring, but on the other hand he's backing himself, which I like.<\/p>\n "LeBron James has done it, Sonny Bill Williams has done it, I've got no doubt that Latrell Mitchell can do it but he's only a young bloke and sometimes security is a good thing to have."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" After declining a a $2.4 million contract extension with South Sydney, it's been revealed Latrell Mitchell's management has held talks about a move to Brisbane.
