E\ufeffngland<\/a> is dealing with an injury crisis in its fast bowling stocks with veteran paceman Jimmy Anderson<\/a> the latest bowler to be struck down ahead of the Ashes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Anderson is believed to have tweaked his groin while representing Lancashire in a county match and there is now doubt over whether he will be fit enough to take the field for the Ashes opener on June 16.<\/p>\n

This comes despite Lancashire labelling Anderson's ailment as a "minor issue" in a statement.<\/p>\n

The 40-year-old did not bowl or bat after his suspected tweak, and England will not take any risks with his health.<\/p>\n

\ufeffDespite his advancing age, Anderson has been a revelation since Australia last toured England, averaging less than 22 with the ball in Test cricket in each of the last four calendar years.<\/p>\n

While his workload has been managed more than ever, Anderson remains the leader of England's attack when healthy and in the lineup.<\/p>\n

His absence would be a major blow for the home side, which is already \ufeffsweating on the fitness of Jofra Archer<\/a>, Olly Stone and Brydon Carse.<\/p>\n

Archer has not played a Test for England since February 2021 and was sent home from the IPL<\/a> last week due to ongoing elbow problems. He has believed to have undergone surgery to heal the injury.\ufeff<\/p>\n
