Nash Morris and James Moffat have starred in the closest Trans Am<\/a> finish in history, split by just 0.04 seconds at the chequered flag.<\/p>\n

Although the record book will say Morris led from lights to flag, it was far from an easy victory.<\/p>\n

Moffat drove from the middle of the pack, avoiding the carnage, to range up behind Morris and engage in one of the most enthralling battles of the weekend.<\/p>\n

It ended with the 20-year-old, who celebrated his birthday on Sunday, defending for his life.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The pair went side-by-side through the final corner and in the end it was Morris who prevailed by the slimmest margin.<\/p>\n

"That was bloody fun," said Morris.<\/p>\n

"I've been missing good racing like this. It's just great, especially against good dudes who don't tip me out, like Moff. So thanks for that mate.<\/p>\n

"Probably one of the best races I've ever been in I reckon."<\/p>\n

Morris said there were nervous moments when he thought he might have given the win away.<\/p>\n

"I thought I lost it all," he said.<\/p>\n

"I don't know if he jacked me up a bit or if I locked the brakes but I was like 'oh, I've lost it all here' so I just stuck it back in there and hoped for the best."<\/p>\n

Moffat was equally enthused, relishing the battle for the win despite coming up short.<\/p>\n

It marked a turnaround for him after his lacklustre race one in which he was forced to pit for a loose window net.<\/p>\n

"I hope the viewers at home enjoyed that one because that was damn fun from inside the car," said Moffat.<\/p>\n

"Congratulations to Nash, he defended his line really well, drove a really nice race. I threw everything at him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I did have the championship at the back of my mind as well because Nash missed the first round, so I didn't want to go full, balls out and throw it away."<\/p>\n

Ben Grice was the biggest loser in the race, suffering a DNF having started from the front row.<\/p>\n

His Ford Mustang lost a right rear wheel with just two laps to go, which ended with him spinning wildly out of control through the gravel trap.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the race, Grice tried to put a pass on Morris for the lead but overcooked his entry to the corner and ended up losing two places after going wide.<\/p>\n

After his race two crash, Owen Kelly recovered to fourth just behind Garry Rogers Motorsport teammate Lachie Dalton.<\/p>\n

The National Trans Am Series returns at Winton Motor Raceway on June 9-11 for the V8 festival.<\/p>\n
