Raiders<\/a> backrower Hudson Young<\/a> has defended the actions of his teammate Corey Horsburgh after he was sent to the sin bin for striking Eels lock Ryan Matterson<\/a> on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

The Raiders now have five wins on the trot after they ran away 26-18 winners at GIO Stadium.<\/p>\n

Tensions erupted in the first half \ufeffwhen a melee broke out following a knock on from Eels second-rower Andrew Davey.<\/p>\n

Horsburgh barged in and set his sights on Matterson, striking the Eels forward before several players attempted to break up the tussle.<\/p>\n

Speaking post-match, Young excused the fiery encounter from his teammate.<\/p>\n

"He's an angry, red devil but you wouldn't change it," he told Fox Footy.<\/p>\n

"It's a game of footy and [it shows] he's got our back like\ufeff everyone has his back on the footy field.<\/p>\n

"Sometimes things just get a bit heated.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Young delivered another superb performance for Canberra, finishing the match with a try, 97 metres run, two tackle busts, three offloads and 20 tackles.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Asked what he was thinking \ufeffin escalating the situation with Matterson, Horsburgh explained that physicality was a deep-seated part of his game.<\/p>\n

"It's safe to say I wasn't really thinking but that's how I play footy," he told Fox Footy after the game. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"In the moment stuff happens and I've got to live with [the consequences] of that.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Former Queensland Origin coach Mal Meninga was critical of Horsburgh's undisciplined behaviour, as the Eels \ufeffscored through J'maine Hopgood while the lock was off the field.<\/p>\n

"It's one of those \ufeffthings that you don't think for that split second and then you let a little one go," Horsburgh added.<\/p>\n

"I'm still working on it.<\/p>\n

That's how I have been since I was young\ufeff but I'm getting better – just little split seconds I guess."<\/p>\n
