A golden era of V8 Supercars<\/a> racing is set to be revived when the SpeedSeries<\/a> brings Victoria's iconic Phillip Island to life on May 12-14.<\/p>\n

Cars from the mid-2000s and early 2010s will take centre stage at the high-speed grand prix circuit for two days of racing as part of the revived V8 Touring Cars Series.<\/p>\n

The field features a mix of youth and experience with some cars bearing the iconic colours they famously raced in.<\/p>\n

Stan Sport is the only place to watch the 2023 SpeedSeries.<\/strong><\/em> All the action streaming ad free, live and on demand<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

Headlining the notable entries are three cars formerly driven by three-time Supercars champion and seven-time Bathurst 1000 winner Craig Lowndes.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

Perhaps the most noteworthy is Jim Pollicina's (No.1) Holden VE Commodore, which debuted in 2010.<\/p>\n

It was the first of two cars built by Triple Eight Race Engineering after Ford dropped its support for the team the year prior.<\/p>\n

The Holden didn't make its debut in Australia, however. The 2010 season opened in Abu Dhabi at the Yas Marina circuit upon which Formula 1 hosts its season-finale.<\/p>\n

Coincidentally, the car's first race win came at Phillip Island that year.<\/p>\n

\"Craig<\/p>\n

The car, dubbed chassis 888A-025, was brought out again in 2012 and will race in the V8 Touring Car Series in the same colours it sported in its last Bathurst 1000 appearance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That iconic red and white Marlboro livery paid tribute to Peter Brock, who made the scheme famous throughout his illustrious career.<\/p>\n

Other notable cars competing at what is the V8 Touring Cars Series season-opener include another Triple Eight Race Engineering-built car.<\/p>\n

Chassis 888A-015 was also driven by Lowndes and was the last Ford FG Falcon he ever raced in Supercars in the 2009 season.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

The car was famous for its Hog's Breath Cafe emblem, which replaced the iconic blue oval after Ford's funding withdrawal.<\/p>\n

The car was sold for the 2010 season to owner-driver Jonathon Webb, who won on the streets of Sydney at the Homebush season finale.<\/p>\n

That came after one of the sport's most iconic moments when the top three cars all crashed out having driven on slick tyres in the wet.<\/p>\n

That car, unfortunately, will not appear in its period-correct livery as driven by Jamie Tilley. Instead, the No.57 will carry an all-black scheme.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

Tony Auddino has the oldest of the three Lowndes cars.<\/p>\n

It's the first ever Ford Performance Racing-built (now Tickford Racing) Ford BF Falcon.<\/p>\n

The car (No.4) was raced in the 2003 season and still sports the iconic CAT colours.<\/p>\n

It won the sole race at Phillip Island that year and was all runner-up in the Bathurst 1000, Lowndes sharing the car with Glenn Seton.<\/p>\n

Although Jude Bargwanna's car doesn't carry the same livery it ran in 2009, the car has plenty of history.<\/p>\n

His Ford FG Falcon \u2013 FPR 808 \u2013 debuted in 2009 with Steven Richards and has been a staple of the Supercars system since then.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

Across the various tiers of Supercars racing, the car has made 199 starts. This weekend marks its 200th.<\/p>\n

The car has 35 race wins, took out the 2015 Super2 Series title with Cameron Waters, and was driven by ex-Formula 1 drivers Jacques Villeneuve and Christian Klien in the 2010 and 2011 Gold Coast 600 races respectively.<\/p>\n

Peter Abood's Holden VE Commodore is significant in that it is the last car Paul 'The Dude' Morris raced in Supercars.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

Named 'Indian', the car carries its striking Supercheap Auto livery that it wore in the 2008 Bathurst 1000.<\/p>\n

The final Project Blueprint-specification car built by Stone Brothers Racing will be piloted by Antonio Molluso. The FG Falcon was last raced in Supercars by Tim Slade in 2012.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ray Hislop's FG Falcon was first driven by Mark Winterbottom in 2011 and carries a slightly modified version of the 2012 Bathurst 1000 livery it campaigned.<\/p>\n

Those colours paid tribute to Ford's iconic one-two finish in the 1977 Bathurst 1000.<\/p>\n

The V8 Touring Car Series is one of five categories at round three of the SpeedSeries season.<\/p>\n

WHO ARE THE BIG NAMES RACING?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Supercars full-timer Will Brown headlines the TCR Australia Series grid alongside Bathurst 1000 podium finisher Tony D'Alberto \u2013 both who have won the TCR title.<\/p>\n

Other notable names in TCR include internet sensation Jordan Cox and Ben Bargwanna, son of Bathurst 1000 winner Jason Bargwanna.<\/p>\n

Two Bathurst 1000-winning sons top the Trans Am billing in James Moffat and Ben Grice.<\/p>\n

\"Gracie<\/p>\n

Super2 Series regulars Tyler Everingham and Jaylyn Robotham return as does Nash Morris, son of Bathurst 1000 winner Paul Morris.<\/p>\n

Renee Gracie will continue her return to racing in GT World Challenge Australia, which also includes Bathurst 1000 starter Dylan O'Keeffe and Asian Le Mans Series driver Garnet Patterson.\ufeff<\/p>\n

WHEN DOES THE RACING START?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Action gets underway on Friday with practice. Qualifying and the first races begin on Saturday before a full day of racing on Sunday.<\/p>\n
